Why Is Tangled So Popular?!

I still have not seen it yet. is it like Shrek meaning is their some adult humour in the film?

There is nothing obnoxious or dirty. I refuse to watch Shrek because of the comments and clips I've seen....I really dislike the crude humor that is added to most children's movies.
But it is very funny to adults...every adult that has watched Tangled with me has laughed and enjoyed it, and there has never been a part where I had to think to myself "I sure hope my 7 year old doesn't *get* what they just said/did."

She's got a freaking frying pan and she's not afraid to use it!

It's cute, funny, sweet and my DD is over the moon for Rapunzel. I like that the songs don't get stuck in my head and there are some great funny moments. I can turn it on for DD and watch it or not while I'm trying to do housework. I also like that she's a strong character. And I love to hear my DD (3 yrs) call her Mother Gawful!

I do NOT like that it taught my DD the word NEVER! I swear that drives me crazier than anything.

I actually thought it was not on par quality-wise with other Disney or Pixar movies. It seemed like a rushed job to me. A little boring. I do want to watch it again though in case I have a change of heart. I wanted to love it so badly.

And on the other spectrum, The Princess and the Frog amazed me! I really thought I would hate it so I waited for it to come out on DVD before watching it but I loved it. It was refreshing to see a neat modern twist on the story.

I agree. I loved Princess and the Frog. We thought Tangled was like a straight to video movie. She looked like anime with her huge eyes. Like an alien. I did not care for the music either. She acted/seemed really "slow"/clueless to me.

I'm sorry..should've read your post closer. We love Mulan, too!! One of our faves. Actually, there are only a few Disney movies we never really got into: The Princess and the Frog, Hercules, and Hunchback of Notre Dame. Oh, and my girls don't really love Snow White (the movie). We love her in Once Upon A Time, though!!

We have Tangled playing in our van a couple of times a week. I don’t get tired of hearing it. The songs are really good, and the dialogue is hilarious. I doubt a day goes by that someone isn’t quoting Tangled at our house. My most often used line – “Oh great, now I’m the bad guy.” We also love:

“Frying pans. Who knew, right?”
“Oh, Mama, I gotta get me one of these.”
“Rapunzel.” “Gesundheit.”
“Oh, look, you’re here, too!”
“Did I ever tell you I’ve got a thing for brunets?”
“After years and years of asking and begging . . . I finally said yes.”


I think I could recite the whole movie!

I do have to admit that when we were at Disney, my 6 year old needed to be reassured often that Mother "Gaweful" wouldn't be there.

I am excited about this, but I have been saying since I saw Tangled in the theater that Disney really needs to make a live, night-time show out of the lantern thing. The castle projection will be cool (and we will get to see it on Feb. 2!!), but I want to see some REAL lanterns floating across the sky! If they can get Tink to fly for them, lanterns should be no problem.

As for the movie, I thought it was cute. I enjoy it. I do wish they had done the songs in a more classic way and had played Rapunzel a little less...trendy, for lack of a better word. I like that she's a strong character, and I don't mind the modern sentiments (self-rescuing princess and all), but I have a hard time seeing this being as popular in 50 years as those early Disney classics are today. It's just so "in the moment," although I can't quite explain why.

I will say, though, that the lantern scene is my hands-down favorite falling-in-love scene in a Disney movie. I cry EVERY time!

Because it reminds us of The Little Mermaid....and we all love The Little Mermaid.

I remember seeing something about the artists creating the Little Mermaid...they said that she was the first princess to have all those cute, quirky facial expressions. Rapunzel has them too.

Its one of my DDs favourites and she watches it constantly. To be fair I love it too. The animation is beautiful and that lantern scene always make me cry. Its so enchanting.

When she meets her mum and dad its very touching but also very very funny but in a childish way. Not in the hidden adult humour way.

The scene where Rapunzel has just stepped down from the tower onto the grass and goes back and forth between giddy with delight and completely freaking out...Best. Disney. Scene. Ever. Plus the horse is freaking hilarious. I won't go so far as saying it's my absolute favorite, but it's top ten, easily.

Oh no it did not!!! Did it? No...I won't believe that.

Now, I don't believe that any Dis photo really killed the M&Gs, but can someone provide the full backstory here? When I first started reading the Dis, I think whatever happened with this picture had already happened, and so I've only seen veiled references to "the situation" but I don't know what fully happened. I've also seen references to "Kansas Flynn"...is that somehow related?

Please clue me in. If it's not OK to post about it on the forum, someone please send me a PM. This is one of those little mysteries of life I'd like solved so I can move on to more pressing matters. Like figuring out which ADRs to make during our next trip.

I don't think we can discuss the whole "Kansas Flynn" thing without threat of a delete, lol.
But I would give anything to see Robo's frying pan photo again. That there was the funniest thing on all of the internets!

Absolutely love Tangled!!!

We saw it in the movies and must have watched it over 50 times by now. Like another poster, my daughter also goes through phases of movies she obsesses over. Tangled was a frequent repeat movie in our home this past summer/fall. Her little sweet voice sounds so angelic when she sings along: "And at last I see the lights!!"

The lantern scene and also the reunion with her parents always getting me a bit sentimental.

I love how the way Rapunzel character is so contradictory:

She's brave, yet she's afraid to venture out.
She's head-strong, yet she craves her mother's approval
She's a bit naive, yet she's incredibly resourceful when it counts.

Absolutely love her. And Flynn's hot.

And I love the relationship/rivalry between Flynn and Maximus. I love when he drops the shoe:

I always tear up at the lantern scene as well!!

I really tear up on this seen, and when I hear the music. A beautiful little 5 year old girl from our community died in Sept from brain cancer. Tangled was her favorite movie and at her birthday/memorial celebration someone sang "I see the light" and her parents and 2 big sisters released a lantern and over 500 of us released lite balloons. It was truly beautiful and there was not a dry eye in the crowd.

This week her parents and 2 big sisters got to take the trip that they were all suppose to take. Make a wish had promised her a trip, but her cancer was so aggressive, she was diagnosed in June and died on Sept. 11th. Make a wish does not send the families after a child dies, so our community and over 18,000 people on face book contributed money to make sure this family got their trip. I think the girls had a good time, but the parents really struggled to put on a happy face when all they could think of is how their beautiful baby girl was not there. They bought her pins, got her her own autograph book and brought a stuffed hamster that she had when she was sick. they posted a photo with stitch and the hamster was sitting in his ear!!

Well, why do I personally love it so much?

I love ALL the characters - except Mother Gothel, but I think I am supposed to detest her, that's the point. Rapunzel is my favorite Princess ever - like a PP mentioned, the scene where she first ventures out of the tower and drives Flynn crazy with her contradictory giddiness over her escape/guiltiness over what it will do to her "mother" is precious. Flynn is wonderful - best hero ever - and Maximus and Pascal make me LMAO every time I watch it. I adore that horse!

Best music in any Disney movie since the Lion King, IMHO. "I See the Light" is one of my favorite songs of all time, of any genre.

GORGEOUS animation. Yes, I know its computer-generated, but it is beautiful nonetheless.

Fantastically quotable lines... my favorite: "Frying pans... who knew, right?" Also "You broke my smolder!"

The "I Have a Dream" scene - 'nuff said.

I just love this movie... watched it again tonight as a matter of fact, since Starz was kind enough to schedule it for me.

ETA: I almost forgot another favorite line: "Here's your frog." "Chameleon!" "Nuance..."
