The lines app indicates that it is temporarily closed, most likely a mechanical breakdown.

It was closed from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm on 12/20. We came back at 630 to use anytime fast pass, waited in line for 3o minutes and got to last turn before loading. Broke down again, we waited an hour and a half because we were so close. It came back up and they sent one boat and as soon as it left it broke again. We took the fast passes given and used them on Soarin the next day. I was amped to finally see it but now don't care if I ever see it.

Honestly this is pathetic. They need to shut it down and fix it properly. I realize it would be painful, it having opened so recently, but honestly they should be extremely ashamed/embarressed now. I hope people are complaining to management, not just here.

It also makes me wonder what's going on, that two major attractions now have been such flops as far as working effectively (FEA/ROL). Can't wait to see what goes wrong with Avatarland if this is the quality of work they're putting out these days.

Well, it's one of the items in a long list of our 1217-12/23 trip that I will be sending an email about. We had some kind of issue everyday and when we addressed it to a CM got "meh whatever" attitudes that they already had our money, they didn't want to be there, and didn't my care what happened with us.

Also I'm not sure if it was just animatronics when I was there. Would they be evacuating from inside the ride if that was the case? Boats were stopped, not coming in or leaving, people were coming out of random doors.

That's discouraging. I want to come back, kids are dying to, too, but I admit, there's been such a huge change on this board since our trip in 2015. So much negativity. There's a part of me that is scared of being disappointed.

Well, we had a not terrible but not amazing trip in July 2015. Went March 2016 and had a GREAT trip. This time I will say that we knew crowds would be insane being Christmas time and standby lines would be long. Our main problems were with the attitudes of transportation CMs and what I consider to be managers of some sort at different places (dressier uniforms than regular CM uniform). I'm a Disney optimist and will excuse a LOT simply because I love Disney so much, but this time by Tuesday I felt beat down disappointed. Each time something would happen I would think it's a glitch and things will get better. It didn't. I have to go back in 2018 as I will be chaperoning kids, but I'm not planning any trips for the future.

I know they've had projection issues. When the new facial projections don't work, it is allegedly pretty unmagical. I believe that. Faceless Anna and Elsa are probably creepy.

But the evacuation from in-ride seems to be mechanicals. Evacs from boats mid-ride seems a nuisance if the issue is the animatronics.

Maelstrom broke down a lot. I personally don't base my entire trip on one ride, particularly this one. It's not that great of a ride. As far as negativity, we receive what we put out. I see a lot of people on the boards who start their trip off already in a bad mood. It's hard to make up for that and sometimes becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am not being a Disney apologist either. I just still find more positive at WDW than negative. However, each to his own.

I rode it a couple times in October, it was good. I was surprised that it was closed almost 2 years for the makeover. Maelstrom closed 10/2014, Frozen opened 6/2016.

We rode it twice in August. The first time about everything was working properly, and it was amazing. The second time there were some issues with Anna, and it really does take away from the ride a lot.

Ugh. That's always disappointing when someone is dismissive of the challenges that you've had. Hopefully that wasn't a frequent response from CMs and just a bad apple. Hope that they give you a proper response to your email. I can tell you that you might get a somewhat canned response back since Disney tries to keep consistency in what say, but emails and letters do get read and circulated. And also there are reports that get summarized with guest feedback, so it does make a difference behind the stage curtain. Definitely worth writing.

I've had really great trips in the past couple of years. The mood of the board ebbs and flows, but I just keep in mind that the people here are the uberfans who are the most critical (and loving) of the WDW experience. And I say that with great respect for the contributors here. But negativity here absolutely doesn't translate into disappointment for the typical guest.

Well put. This is absolutely true! I've seen every kind of guest, and there were many who just arrived and were already prepared for the worst vacation ever. I never understood that. Even if you know you're going during the hottest, most crowded day of the year, and then the curveballs get thrown at you, your attitude determines whether you have fun or are doomed to waste your vacation.

Thank you for all of your replies and input. I will pass on the info in the morning. I'm glad that it was working late. The Dis is amazing !!!
