Dumb question, but it came up. Why do many people not consider fish to be a meat It seems like one to me. TIA

he he he -- i know what inspired this question ;)

i can't tell you why, but i know a lot of people don't consider it meat. in fact, one of my friends who is vegetarian eats fish.

Fish swim
Meat walks

I know plenty of people that don't like the fishy though

So vegetarians can have meat to fill their basic human omnivore desires but not feel guilty about it.

At least that is my guess. ;)

My DS is a vegeatarian and does NOT eat fish.

good answer...tuna doesn't walk either..:scared1:

Mammal VS non-mammal, water VS land creature.

Maybe a vegetarian who eats fish can explain why they do so. A fish is a living thing, just like a mammal, isn't it?

technically vegetables are living things too. :p

All right, so I still don't totally get it, but I guess I don't have to understand everything! Thanks for the link Dan. The brain fog issues I have, sometimes keep me from looking at the obvious!

Leave it uneaten in the back of the 'fridge long enough...it just might!

Technically , so are germs/parasites etc. yet vegans shower and take medicine. That's one thing that has always boggled my mind.

I, for one, don't like labels... vegan, vegetarian, etc... I don't fit into any of them so I don't call myself any. I eat some salmon rarely, and tuna occasionally. But no other meat or "seafood". No other dairy except chocolate.

So... to solve people's issues about wanting to put me in a category... I just say I am a picky eater. Some days I'll eat salmon, others nope. Depends on my mood. :yo-yo:

Fish is meat. It is flesh of an animal. Simple.

if you want to look at a snakehead, come out here to maryland! some idiot put one in one of our local ponds and it's been terrorizing the native fish. they drained the whole pond trying to find it recently.

ETA, i'm an idiot dan -- i didn't click on your link, i just saw it was about snakeheads. LOL

This thread reminded me of a bumper sticker I once saw:

"If we aren't supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?"
