Why is DS smelling "yeast"?

DS14 has been fighting a cold for the past week or so and, honestly, I haven't taken him into the dr. because he hasn't had a fever, and hasn't been sick enough to ask to stay home. He just got home, though, and said that starting late this afternoon, he kept "smelling bread or beer" (which I assume means yeast), and his headache is back.

The obvious seems to be a sinus infection, but the trick is that he's supposed to be gone all day tomorrow to his football playoff game. Why else would he be smelling yeast?

Terri

I tried googling and yeast infections come up in that that is what those smell like.

Not sure why he is picking up the scent in particular. Usually with colds and sinuses, your sense of smell is blocked and your sense of taste is altered as a result.

I'm sensitive to a bread smell now (and am pregnant but otherwise healthy) and that is all blamed of course on hormone changes. (old smelly toast is a phantom smell that I pick up that no one else can smell and it drives me crazy!!!!)

That's so funny, Lisa, because I was googling it at the same time! I just tend to worry, because my DH had a sinus infection where they literally "scooped" gunk out of his nose...well, I'll stop there since you're pregnant and I don't want to upset you!

Hoping we can hold off until Mon when his regular dr. is open...

Oh, ick. I wonder how much it can grow in 48 hours until the doctor's office opens:confused3? Ick, ick, ick....

Thanks!

Terri

Does that mean he needs some monistat up the nose?:rolleyes1

Hope he doesn't get dizzy/injured at his game - a sinus infection can be very serious, and if my kid was experiencing nonexisting smells, along with a headache, the last thing I'd want him to do was play football, in case it was something even more serious. Hopefully it's not, and he feels better soon.

No worries, he's a freshman brought up for the playoffs, so I knew he wouldn't play much if at all, but it would "break his heart" not to go. He ended up only playing the last few minutes, so that was ok. Now he's on the couch! He says it's no better, no worse, so we'll try and hold off and go to the dr. on Monday to avoid the e.r. crowds.

Do you have an CVS's or Walgreen's. You could check out their minute (or whatever Walgreen's calls it) clinic?

Or go to the Walgreens/CVS and get a NETI Pot. My husband was suffering from sinus pressure and headache, thought for sure it was a sinus infection coming on. I went and purchased the NETI pot and it cleared his sinuses right up. He now uses it whenever he feels like allergens are present in his sinuses to help keep them clear. He Loves It!! Good Luck!

Love my neti pot too! Glad he made it through the game, hope he feels better soon!

Did y'all miss the recent thread here on the newest study that showed neti pots aren't so good for sinus infections after all:confused3? I know my mom swears by hers, but after reading this study, I'm waiting to ask our dr. on Mon. her opinion.

We are lucky enough to FINALLY have a "walk in" type clinic at the Shopko 45minutes away, so we'll be going there tomorrow if he's not feeling better.

Thanks y'all, as always!

Terri
