Why Is Disney So Skimpy With AP Info?

We are going in November for 8 Nights/9Days.

I have read here and on mousesavers about room discounts, dining discounts, tour discounts, merchandise discounts, etc. that are offered with the AP.

So, in order to calculate whether the greater costs of the AP could be offset by these discounts I sent Disney an email requesting a complete list of discounts.

Here is the exact text of the answer I received...

Thank you for contacting the WDW Passholder Concern desk. Please note that the Walt Disney Company does not release Passholder benefits information to guests who are not currently an Active Annual Passholder. What you get when you purchase an annual pass is the 1 year of unlimited use of the DisneyTheme
parks. We do not give out the benefits information to entice a guest to become an Annual Passholder because the benefits are not what you purchase when you become an Annual Passholder. The other benefits you get are extras that the Disney company includes as a way of thanking you for becoming an Annual
Passholder and are always subject to change without notice. I hope this helps.
Have a great day.
Thanks again,

Is this nuts or what!
SIGH....

looks to me like they don't want to get cornered into promising anything!

Legal jargon.

Basically, they're telling you that when you purchase an AP, you're purchasing 365 days of admission to the parks. Anything else is whatever pixie dust they decide to sprinkle on you.

That's why it's a good idea to book your room with the AP discount code first and then purchase the pass. Doing it the other way around could lead to disappointment for you if no AP codes come out for your time.

www.allears.com will give you all the info you need. It is the same as what is on the wdw site.

I know I'll get flamed for this (zips up flame retardant suit), but I'm kind of glad that this is Disney's "official" response. I see so much angst about AP rates, discounts, etc. from people who expect the AP to be a discount card, similar to what the old Disney Club was. Just present it and get whatever discount you're "entitled" to. But that was never the point of the AP (a year's park admission was the point) and, in recent years, it seems that the AP has gotten a little abused and expectations have been created that were never intended. Discounts are the extra (like someone else said) pixie dust that they throw your way as thanks and incentive to get you to use your pass more often. I'm glad to see that Disney isn't willingly giving out the discount info. -- this way no one can say they were encouraged to purchase an AP for the discounts and Disney can't be accused of promising anything to anybody if benefits change or are unavailable. Flame away. :D

And I would guess like all things Disney -- Subject to change without notice (in fine print). ;)

Thank You all for for replies!

Yes, I look @ the AP as a discount card.
I would be willing to pay more up front but get some back end discounts and look to come out a little ahead or even on the whole deal.

I am not sure if we would make it down for a 2nd trip before it expires...So I MUST KNOW if it would be worth my while to buy one for ONE trip.
But I am running into Disney legalise...and cannot get the hard data I need to compute my savings-if any...

Thank you for the point to the allears site - I all ready have that in "favorites" but I was hoping for a list like that from Disney.

Well, thanks again for your replies.
I will watch for the AP codes when they come out for November and try this equation again!

The information on all ears is exactly what is out on the website for AP holders. You should be able to compute from there.
