Why is Alamo pushing SUVs?

A couple of things.....I had the SUV deal from Alamo when I was down there a few weeks ago. They were out of the Equinox so I was given a Trailblazer. The Equinox is not really a true SUV--it is more of a crossover and has a minivan engine (the 3.4 liter I think). They can get 25-26mpg on the highway. The Trailblazer is a true small truck SUV and it has a large engine and gets worse milage--around 21-21mpg on the highway. I bought about $45 in gas while down there and I figure the Trailblazer might have cost me an additional $7 in gas. It was nice to have an SUV--made it easy to get the kid in and out of the back and the cargo area is huge.

When I was down there I saw gas from $2.58 to over $3. I bought gas near the Super Walmart on SR 535 (it was around $2.70 a gallon). Gas was also fairly reasonable at the Hess stations on property.

I looked at the equinox's at the local chevy dealer and they said that GM will give Alamo $ to push certain cars because it is great publicity.

Many Reasons including the quoted one.

GM and other makers often give great prices to the agencies on certain vehicles to fill production gaps.

Also, price wise, an Equinox is not much more to buy then an Impala.

I have reservations for two of the Chevy Equinox for my Feb trip. They were $310.88 total for both of them. Great rate. Anyone know if I can modify the reservation as we are closer to our trip and get 15% of for prepaying or would I have to do a new reservation and lose the great rate that I got? Thanks.

ETA: Delta keeps changing my flights so I don't want to prepay too early because I wasn't sure if you could modify your reservations after you prepay with Alamo.
