Why I'm Scared of an Obama Presidency

And as for your quote about a small group of people controlling the wealth and problems arising, what are you proposing? Sounds like socialism to me, and we all know how smoothly that runs.

Actually we have no idea how that actually works, since no country has ever actually had socialism, sure some have called themselves that, but they were not practicing what they preached. This is not to mean that I favor giving it a try, just that it has never actually been tried.

I want a dem to win, and my reason for wanting one to win lies in my belief that there has to be a checks and balances with the way this country is structured.
When a small conglomerate of people maintain control of the country's wealth too many problems arise. We can see that with pharm companies etc. who are controlled by people in govt. Things have to change. I am not worried about the color of anyone's skin age, etc. I used to like McCain, but I am fearful that his changes on his beliefs are a direct result of his being controlled by other members of his party. I do not believe he is in control of what is going on. I think he knows that if he wants to win he has to follow the Bush legacy. 4 more years of McCain will equal 12 years of Bush. There will be no difference. The powers that lie will continue to be there.

FYI, there are more millionaires in Congress that are Dems than Repubs.

Secondly, the Dems are strongly in control of both houses of Congress and likely will be after the Nov election. Based on this, shouldn't you vote McCain, to maintain the "checks and balances"? Do you want a VERY liberal Democrat in control of the Executive Branch, and a VERY liberal Speaker of the House, and a VERY liberal Senate majority leader. It's one thing if they're moderates (like the Clinton Administration), but these three are WAY, WAY left. And, the Judicial branch (Supreme Court) is only barely Republican (and there are a couple "swing voters" there).

McCain is the only assurrance of the "checks and balances" which you seek.

Aahhh - touche Master Mason! I was thinking of countries such as Cuba.

I hope that you meant the people in government are controlled by the big companies. Because that's how it is. Not the other way around.

Exactly my point. The Germans did not overwhelmingly put Hitler in power, he grabbed power.

To blame the entire German population for Hitler is just ignorance.

It is easy for us to live in a free country and freely elect our officials by majority vote, and not understand that in other countries it is not the majority that has a say in who is in control, or what the government is going to do.

He didn't grab power, it was given to him. And maybe if the citizens hadn't willingly given up their weaponry, those who didn't had theirs confiscated, things might have turned out quite different. Yet there is a world wide movement (via the UN) to remove all weapons from the hands of law abiding citizens (the police, armies and criminals get to keep theirs).

As further proof of Americans' inability to understand the world in which we live, when I moved back to the States, I was teased horrendously and called "Heidi" and "Nazi" all through high school because I had simply lived (on an American Army base) in Germany. The level of ignorance of my classmates and their parents was astonishing.

My bestfriend in highschool is 2nd generation German-American and I spent quite a bit of time in their and his extended families company along with non-German friends and not ONCE did I experience any anti-German sentiments from anyone. Ever. I'm not saying you didn't it's just that our experiences are polar opposites.

there comes a time when Americans need to stop throwing mistakes of history in other nations' faces and move forward. Something about pulling the plank out of our own eye?

Hell! We need to stop tossing the mistakes of our own past in each others faces!!!

I think this is interesting. My mother is Rusyn (not Russian -there's a difference) - however, we are Russian Orthodox. My mom is 1st generation American. She grew up in the 50s and she recalls being called "Commie" all the time by kids. To this day, she will comment how she never understood how the German kids got a free pass and she was taunted. I'm not saying that either is right or should be done - but apparently she never heard anti-German sentiments either. Now, my dad is Italian -- also 1st generation American -- I don't think I can tell you what he's been called. ;) . I,however, have been called some anti-Italian terms - don't know if I can post those either --

Without mentioning any names, one particular candidate for POTUS (and his spouse) seem to keep harping over and over about all the "mistakes" of our own past, even on foreign soil. His supporters cheer at these statements, showing they too share the same sentiment.

Oh no, don't mention any names...

:rotfl2:

The argument that he lacks experience falls flat in the face of history. Some Presidents with no experience were great (Lincoln) while others with tremendous experience were awful.

I heard the same stuff about Clinton, that it was going to be big goverment, that he would increase the debt, our country would disintegrate. None of this happened and he balanced the budget!

Are you honestly comparing Obama to Lincoln? Lincoln would have been the most hated of United States Presidents had he not been martyred on Good Friday. His rise to iconic status is largely thanks to the very men who wanted to detract from him.

Also, he did have experience. He served 4, yes 4, terms in the Illinois State House of Representatives. Served the Illinois State Legislature before that. And unlike Obama actually wrote papers on the LAWS that governed his state and country, these helped to elect him years later. Spoke out against the DEMOCRATS and their stance on the issues of Slavery and the Mexican/American War.

Not to mention Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN and WHIG party member. But nice try.

And I don't think the Obama camp would appreciate the comparisons to Bill Clinton. You know a campaign based on CHANGE being aligned with SAME OLD POLITICS OF THE 90s.

Don't even try to compare Obama to Lincoln. I heard some democrats saying Obama is like Ronald Reagan. Come on that is a joke. Both Ronnie and Lincoln had far more experience than Obama.

Since experience does not seem to be a problem for you, if you needed a major operation, would you rather chose a doctor who has been performing the procedure for many many years, or someone right out of Medical school?

They also had an appreciation of the values and the history that made this country great.

NOPE what I wrote was what I meant.
I am not speaking of those in congress or the senate. I am speaking on a much higher level.

Those in the top level of govt. use their position of power for their own monetary benefit.

This article was posted on the conservative thread, and I think it does an excellent job of clearly demonstrating why so many of us believe Obama would take our country in the wrong direction.

Yeah, I love the way the article has to mention his Harvard educated African father and Rev. Wright. Gotta keep that fear going. That is why Sean Hannity is so successful at what he does. He sends those brilliant subliminal messages using sound bites to further instill the fear of Obama by hearing the harsh sounds of a black man. This does it the same way only with an added twist by adding a couple of more facts ;) Brill absolutely Brill.

I don't think blaming Sean Hannity for Obama attending a HIGHLY racist church is going to score many points with anyone who has common sense and can think for themselves. The people who listen to Sean Hannity on tv/radio, are the people who want to watch/listen to Sean Hannity
