Why have you NOT bought DVC?

do you know, theres not oneperson who are against dvc that go there, stay on property in the rooms we stay in, as many time as we do.

Well, the OP's intention of this thread was for people who stay in deluxes at WDW every year and their reasons for not buying into DVC.

Perhaps if the rest of us let them get a word in here, maybe we'd find them.

:lmao:

My bet is we're not finding a whole lot of them because most have them have bought DVC!

THANK YOU ---- or maybe we non DVC'ers should just got over to the DVC boards and post there so they can enjoy the same frustration.

We have been thinking about it, just have not bought yet. I think I really would just like to move there!

do you know, theres not oneperson who are against dvc that go there, stay on property in the rooms we stay in, as many time as we do. im still waiting for one to tell me how i can stay in a 2 bedroom for 9-10 nights per year for less. (we paid $66.00 per point in 99) ill sell my points today if someone can.

WE DO!

We pay less than DVC when we stay on property!!!

ya, get me a job at disney for 80,000 a year and im with you!! wow ,no hugs , tuff crowd!! come on mouse, just one, i hate are the arguing! just one little one than you can get mad at me again. heres one for you:grouphug:

But your arguments are purely speculative "what ifs". I've had the membership 12 years, and see clearly how well it works for our family. It would likely work similarly well for a family that likes to spend a lot of time for Disney. Your stock market arguments are completely off base...this is money alloted for vacation taking, not investments.

Europe has had skyhigh gas prices for decades. Everybody there still travels all over Europe.

The same will happen here. People, technologly and infrastructure will adjust. WDW and other amusement parks will go on. Families will travel, just like they did when they had to climb in a covered wagon to do so.

Still haven't said how much you have totally spent over the time since you know you paid it off.
1) You are the one saying you saved so much money.
2) I could set aside the money as an investment and use the interest for my "vacation taking". The money would still be my bank account, not disneys'.
3) If you've been to Europe, they travel and commute much more so by train and public transport, not so as much as by car. Your argument that current European tourism is undeterred by oil prices is a weak one, The very weak weak dollar drives current European tourism, making the travel a value.
3) Covered wagon? Are you confusing settlers and tourists?

Oh I am sorry, I thought this was a public board for anyone to post on. You are more than welcome to come on over to the DVC board, you'd probably post more there than I do.

sry I didn't read all the posts and pages...so if this has already stirred up flames, just skip me and read on..lol
While I dont stay at the deluxes every year we have before...my goal is to stay at each resort at least once. I still have a few to go!
We considered this many times...and have even rented points to stay at SSR and LOVED IT. But we always come back to the what if's...so we just talk and talk and do nothing. But here is my thing...If I can rent the points and still enjoy the DVC then why worry about buying in. I do not have to pay all the fees and if you want to look at it another way, these are points that the DVC member might loose if they didn't rent them out...so at least they are making some of their costs back. So that is our reasons we dont buy in...I am not saying we never will, because if the money is ever in our account and free then I am sure we will as we are lifers...but for now, it is just talk.

While I respect your opinion and note that you have made several good points throughout the thread, I thought I would point out that if you invested the money in an interest-bearing account of some sort (doesn't matter what) and you used all of the earnings thereon to take vacations, you would lose purchasing power in the principal as inflation increased. Technically, you'd be losing money too. There clearly is no real way to make money on spending money on vacations. The principal would be "depreciating" in a sense...just like a member's ownership interest in DVC. Of course you would still have the principal and could spend it on something else (clearly making it much more liquid than a DVC ownership interest) but it would be interesting to determine, based on inflation, how the value of your principal compared to the value of the depreciating DVC ownership over time. Obviously the cash is still going to be worth more in most cases, but it would still be an interesting comparison.

Simply put:
When we realized that we intended to go to WDW at least once a year and saw how much we were paying for hotels, we decided to take that money and buy DVC instead of watching that money swirl down the vacation toilet.

Since we were going to spend that money on WDW rooms anyway, buying DVC is allowing us to keep some of the value for ourselves.

Buying DVC vs. renting resort rooms is like the choice to buy a house or rent an apartment. (You just get to keep the house a lot longer than 50 years and a place to live is a necessity unlike a Disney vacation.)

I would love to buy into DVC and when I think of the money we have spent in the last 6 years alone on Deluxe resorts we could have easily paid for DVC by now. Problem is I don't have all the cash available right now to pay in full and the maintenance fees seem a bit high. But it still seems like a good deal for us anyway. We always stay deluxe, we normally stay 8 - 12 days, and we go at least once a year. I also like the fact that you can use your points to go other places around the world. Unless I'm missing something I don't get the argument that many people have made about wanting to take vacations outside of WDW. Can't you use your points to go other places?

Yes but you do get the most bang for the buck when using points at DVC resorts
