Why double names for Girl Scout Cookies???

I like the lemon chalets, but the lemonades sound yummy.

Anyone else remember the vanilla sandwich cookies from many years ago? They came in a box with chocolate too, but the vanilla were my all time favorites!

I agree with the PP who said Little Brownie Bakers in so much better. ABC Bakeries were blah.

Here's another vote for Little Brownie Bakers.

When my daughter was selling, we had Little Brownie Bakers until the last two years she sold. My sister, who lives 90 miles away (because their council had switched from Little Brownie Bakers) would order from us so she could have her Samoa fix, because they are better than the alternative.

After our council switched from Little Brownie Bakers, I bought from a friend who lives in the next council because they stayed with Little Brownie Bakers.

:cutie:

Did they sell these cookies this year? I can't find them on either bakers website and have had them in the past, so I would love to get some if I can.
My own council has never sold these, but my nieces have. I really don't know if they're available this year. I think they were called something like Fiestas or Pinatas.

I am on the workout train again, and I told our neighbor that we would give it a pass this year. She was very disappointed. We bought 24 boxes last year... :lmao:

We had a choice of a new cookie, something with Cranberries. I bought a box to try them but we don't get cookies until March here. I also noticed that they didn't have All-Abouts this year. They were a shortbread with the bottom coated in chocolate. I liked those. We have always had the Samoas, Do-si-do, etc. here.

Why oh why are there NO girl scouts in my area!?! I can't find ANYONE selling cookies this year!!!!! Usually they will be outside the grocery store or wal-mart.....this year not a single one! I keep reading everyone's girl scout cookie post and I am just so sad! I had to buy a box of grasshoppers and put them in the freezer! Even pretending, they don't taste as good!

Aslo, last year, my Thin Mints were $6 a box!!! I wish I could get them for 3.50!!

Anyone selling cookies in Southern California? I need 4 boxes of Thin Mints ponto!!!

When I was in Girl Scouts, we had the cutesy names, which, IMO, added to their appeal. :)

Yes ABC and Little Brownie bakery are the only companies that make official Girl Scout Cookies. As stated each bakery has their own name for some of the standard varieties. The 'extra' cookies are individual to each bakery. These varieties change periodically.

My area council - Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council - has this on their website:

Licensed bakers can offer up to eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies®; only three types are mandatory: Thin Mints, Do-si-dos™ and Trefoils. The national Girl Scout organization reviews and approves all varieties proposed by the bakers. Any of the five optional Cookies can be changed every year. Suggestions for new Cookies are welcome, but the national Girl Scout organization can make no promise to use them.

Each Girl Scout Council chooses which bakery to buy their cookies from. They look at several factors including theme and support materials for leaders and scouts, cookie varieties, of course price, and other factors. Some councils sign multi-year contracts to get better deals, some evaluate the deals offered each year.

Each council sets the cost they will charge for the cookies. Each council also determines how much of the profit goes to troops and how and what prizes are awarded to scouts according to how many boxes they sell. Sometimes councils give troops the two options of choosing prizes for the scouts. The standard method is offering patches, stuffed animals, or other trinkets provided from the bakery from the years theme earned according to how many boxes a scout sells. Some councils also give troops the option of not offering prizes but give the troops more ca$h for each box sold.

If you want Girl Scout Cookies there is a girl scout out there that would love to sell some to you. You may have to look for her though. My council has an 800 number to call and your request is forwarded to a troop in the area where you live. I know DISers are a smart bunch of women and with some internet research I'm sure you could find a scout willing to sell you any number of boxes.

My council also allows customers to purchase cases of cookies that are donated to charity. The program is called 'Operation Taste of Home'. 60% of the cookies are donated to our troops through the USO at Dover Air Force Base located in our council. The other 40% of the cookies are donated to local charities throughout the council.

I had a blast serving as the Area Girl Scout Cookie Manager. I worked with about 40 troops. I trained each Troop Cookie Mom so they could train their scouts, ordered their cookies, tracked cookie payments to the council, and helped with problems.

This program is a great learning experience for girls and funds the majority of their troop activities for the year. Thanks for your support!!

Our troop ordered the sample pack for our cookie rally--- honestly, Thank U Berry Munch wasn't all that great.....I bet we won't see it again. With milk...probably fine!

Is that the "Thank U Berry Munch"? DH ordered several boxes of these, but he likes to dunk his cookies in milk, so I think they will be fine.

Has anyone tried the Dulce de Leche?

We're Little Brownie and ours go for 3.00 per box.

Which version do you sell? We do the caramel delights, peanut butter patties, shortbreads...and they go for $3.50 a box.

I wish the council here would switch back to the bakery that makes the Tagalongs. A few years ago, they switched and now sell Peanut Butter Patties, which just aren't as tasty as Tagalongs IMO.

Just the name "Peanut Butter Patties" is a turn off- sounds boring! Tagalongs rule!

We had those berry ones and we liked them very much. The Dulce De Leche I didn't like at all and this year they got rid of the caramel that they drizzeled on the top which was the only good part of that whole cookie.

What I wouldn't give for a box of Samoas! I was surprised to see the other names! Now help me win a bet. DH says that GS used to sell little triangle cheese crackers. I said no way, they must have been with Boy Scouts. Anyone remember?

I seem to remember selling the cheese crackers one year. Your husband might be right!

Our council sets the price that we sell boxes for. This year we are $4.

Our council - Southern NJ is ABC and we have never (well in 20 years) had the alternative names. It was always PBP, TM, etc...

I remember those ones with the fruit, I loved them too but can't for the life of me remember the names...

I am a "retired" life member now so I had to order my fix... A case of TM and a case of those new daisy cinn ones. Well..with the obligatory PBP and Lemon ones...:rotfl:

Have you seen the ones on ebay? it is a riot sometimes seeing the prices for them...

I bet if you don't have in your area and you call your local council they would be happy to have someone deliver them to you. We used to do housecalls. :thumbsup2

Not to change the subject...but I have a box of thin mints in the freezer. Anyone think I'll die if I eat them???

No, I just ate ones last week that were from last year! Just a delicious as ever. The chocolate was getting a bit waxy but that didn't affect the taste.

I sold the delicious Caramel deLites et al when I was a GS. I've since lived in 2 areas where they do NOT sell them, just the Samoas et al. They look a bit different, bit different thickness and size, but they all pretty much taste the same to me!

ETA: Mine were only $3 a box this year and last year. Where we lived in CA 2 years ago they were $4. In PA I think they were $4? I last sold them at 3.50 I believe, but it may have been $4 - and that was in 2002.
