Absolutely true. But if they aren't, we're more than happen to, you know, vacation somewhere else. I don't want to be locked into a contract to see the same things, over and over.

I may change my tune in 2011 when I struggle to figure out what to do with all of the 2010 points I banked/must use.

Oh how I wish we had that problem. We are always running out of points. We bought in with the plan of two weeks (weekdays) at WDW every year. When they did the reshuffle of points for the weekdays, it threw our point system out of whack. Eventually, we will add-on.

Does that 900.00 include food,tix and getting there? no so you are spending 900.00 a year for JUST the room..and then add food and tix for next week and you are spending more then I am and we stay deluxe also.I have never went without a pin or some other discount.If we stayed at a value (we do sometimes) I get 2 whole trips for what you are paying. I think that is the point of the people here saying why they DONT do DVC.PLUS you may have your paid for but you are not really just spending 900.00 (dues) for the 2 weeks but you spent upwards of 14,000 then the extra 900.00 a year from now until it expires...most people pay monthly for the DVC and also pay the dues...THAT is wayyyy to much for 2 weeks of room only.

My DVC dues are $900 a year, my tickets are around $1200 a year, airfare for the 2 trips is $1400 and food is aprox. $1000. So a total of $4,500 for 2 Disney trips per year.

Although I have seriously considered it a few times... dh reminds me of the reasons we don't become DVC members:

As former timeshare owners (we had a floating week, so it's a bit different, I know) we had a 2 bedroom unit and exclusively used it for RCI exchanges around the country. Some resorts were awesome, some just good. Exchanging is not as easy as they make it out to be, you have to be REALLY flexible about your dates or places and sometimes even both!

Fees and assessments. They do go up and it's annoying!

Discounts are too good, free dining, room only discounts, etc.

I like to stay somewhere different everytime, and I plan WAAAAY ahead. the 7month window for booking outside your home resort would give me agita!!

We are fortunate to have a second home at the beach to support. I am lucky to be able to go to Disney as often as we do.

I used to joke if we won the lottery we could join DVC, but if that happened and it was in the millions, we would just buy a house at Disney in the Golden Oaks

Even with all the codes and discounts I can't stay 5 nights in a one bedroom and 5 nights in a studio for $900. I would go to WDW twice a year even if I didn't have DVC, so for us the costs of tickets and food and airfare are costs we would have anyway.

It's as simple as this. If you stay in moderate and deluxe resorts, DVC is for you. If you stay at value resorts, it is not.

You can spend your DVC points in other places other than WDW. There are many DVC resorts around the world. You can even spend them in non-Disney resorts, but you have to be flexible in when you go.

For us it made sense since we go to WDW every year, and it's a pain in the butt to rent 2 rooms and try to get them adjoining. You can easily spend $10,000 on a week long stay at the deluxe resorts. Now we have a 2 bedroom comfortable and beautiful place to stay every Disney trip. No more hassling over adjoining rooms or sharing beds! We can even walk or take the monorail to the park! In a few years, it'll have paid itself off.

That's a matter of opinion. For me it wasn't an absurd price, we could afford it so we did it and don't regret it at all.

We bought DVC because it guarantees us a vacation every year. DH would just skip vacations if he wasn't forced to take them, and he knows that's not good for his or his family's health

It's also nice not to have to think about discounts and promotions. We book almost a year ahead, save up the cash for food & minimal souvies at the parks, and stagger so we get 2 trips per calendar year so we can save on tickets with APs.

The only thing we end up stalking is airfare, and we just buy SW tickets as soon as they come available

It may not be cheaper, but it sure is convenient! Our dues are $600/year, too, and that gets us 2 weeks in a studio.

I'm not sure what your point is. My point was that, when all is said and done, DVC makes no financial sense, whether you stay Deluxe, Mod or Value. DVC is THAT much more expensive, for not a lot of extra perks.

We bought into a resort that had 50 years on the contract when we bought in. Our dues are about $600 per year (actually a little less but rounding up) and the cost/year of our intial contract comes to $314. So we are paying $914/year- we buy AP's, which we have done for a few years, even before we had DVC as we live in FL. We bring our own breakfasts and cook them and eat both on and off property for meals. We normally stay for 3 nights and spend about $200 for food (just 2 of us) each trip. This year we had 2- 5 night and 2- 3 night and a 2 night trips for our points. I don't count the cost of driving to Disney since we use less than a tank of gas. So not including our AP's- since we use them on day trips as well as the overnights and they are worth it just for the parking on day trips- we spend about $120/night to stay in a deluxe resort including out food. The stays themselves are just about $50/night- since DH won't stay in anything but a queen or king bed we can't get that price anywhere else on property.

We have looked into it several times, but as others have said it just dosen't work out for us. When we go to Disney we love the value resorts and all the huge Disney icons. We basically just use our room to take an afternoon break and crash at night and don't spend alot of time there. So the figures just don't work out for us. By the time we paid the maintenance fee and bought our tickets we would have almost invested as much as we spend on an 8 night package with the dining plan for three. More, when we get a good discount. Now, if they would do a value resort DVC with the new animation resort, that didn't cost as much, I would be ready to sign up. LOL, I know that's not gonna happen but a girl can dream.

I think the point was that prices go up. Who knows what room rate would be in 10 years. In a long term, you save on DVC but it is like investment, you have to wait pretty long till saving kicks in.

You are wrong. Staying at deluxe and moderate resorts is way more expensive than DVC.
