Why Don't People Wear Seatbelts?

I am always surprised to hear how many people don't wear seatbelts, or keep their children properly restrained in a carseat/booster, etc.

Only out of curiosity - if you are involved in an accident and were not wearing a seatbelt in a state where it is required, does your auto insurance still pay up? Can they drop you??

I know nothing about it, however, I think they would drop you since it is kindof common sense. :confused3

OMG...honey if you ONLY knew! been there, done that more then you I am so sure! I am so done with what you people think ,you all have no clue. I leave you all to have your "Wine" and your ONE Beer and get behind that wheel, are YOU gonna pay? I sure hell not gonna pay for you!

If after one beer they get in a car and ram into you (who's NOT wearing a seat belt) and you are the one who gets ejected from the car you will be the one that paid for it.

Ok I'll be honest with you. I don't drink therefore I am not one of those people who have gotten behind the wheel after a beer. I also don't smoke, never have and never will.

OT: IMO if you aren't wearing a seatbelt you should be given more than just a fine. What happens if you are in a car accident, no seatbelt and your body goes through the windshield into another person (in another car or on the street) and they die from the impact of your body?

By not wearing a seatbelt you are putting other people's lives at risk and should not even have a liscense.
I do not care! what about that loser in front of me blowing HIS smoke out the window, coming into mine? I have asthma, and you are making ME SICK! are YOU gonna pay????
This is my last post on this useless thread, I have seen way MORE people and friends of mine be in trouble BECAUSE of seatbelts then with them, so you will not win this one with me, I am right...you are wrong! or at least it is not any of your business what I do in MY car!

See, I hve a life and I am going out now, hummm, without my belt! nighty night!

I do not wear one, for several reasons. #1. I have a every bad panic disorder, and that is where my panic happens to be, I FREAK OUT if I try to wear one! 2. One of the times I DID wear one, someone ran a stop sign and hit me. If I was not wearing one I would have been ok, but instead I now have a bad shoulder due to a very bad torn rotator cuff! 3. I have had 3 different friends in 3 different accidents who if they WERE wearing a belt they would have been DEAD on impact! They were eject in 2 of the cases which saved there lives.

I now live, what will be will be! It is my choice...and I chose NOT to wear one, for the above reasons!:santa:

Sounds like an accident to me! Guess you forgot about that one. I don't believe you are a better driver, just a little lucky. The problem is that its not YOUR driving ability, but, as you stated in your post, SOMEONE ELSE can ruin your day! So no matter how good a driver you are, its the other person that will ruin your day!

Yup...'tiss called the law of averages.

Mickey Mouse I would love to hear your logic on this subject. I think someone that drinks and drives should have to pay all the cost also.

I have talked with many people that regret after the fact that they weren't wearing their seat belts. Too late when they are paralyzed.

ok, one more answer.....HEY HIT ME! HE RAN A STOP SIGN! I sued! He was 100% at fault ! I got big money!;)

I can only speak for myself but I dont smoke, my DF did and he died a few years ago of lung cancer.
As for drinking well, I have in the past, but i always stayed where I was. See while I was in high school, one of my friends was killed by a drunk driver leaving a football game one night and I now live by where it happened and each tme i go by there, I think of him and how much his family, friends, and society lost that night.
I also don't talk while I drive, eat, read or put on make up. My life is too precious.

What kind of dumb999 thing to say about since you haven't been in a accident, so you must be a better driver? I haven't caused any accidents I have been involved in. ANd my driving record is spotless.
So in the words of Kool Moe Dee- How you like me now?

RIde without a seatbelt not wear a helmet, just make sure your family is taken care of. So go out and drive like that and maybe you will luck out and survive but be a vegetable, or something to wear your family has to take care of you. But at least you made your own choice.:thumbsup2

could care less...and I guess because you all wear seatbelts that makes in invincible? oh, so think again. If it is YOUR Time, your going, with or without a belt.

ANYWAY, wearing seat belts is a really good idea, if nothing else, to protect you from other silly people that don't drive with them. As noted by an instructor that I had a number of years ago, even driving at moderte highway speeds, in an increasing radius turn (like a highway on ramp) the g forces will push your tush towards the outside of the circle, and could cause your center of gravity to shift in the seat, making your leg at the incorrect angle (for you) to quickly use the gas or brake pedal, AND possible affect steering. That was just ONE of many instances that the instructor cited for the wearing of seatbelts.

anyone here SMOKE or drink here? I am guessing yes...well, guess what? that brings up the cost of insurance also, and I can bet my bottom dollar most of you have had a beer and got behind the wheel, again I can bet my bottom dollar on it. So who are you all to tell ME what to do? NO ONE! So STOP your smoking, because it affects my insurance rates, and that ONE beer you just had? or that glass of wine? YOU could be the next cause.....

so move on with YOUR lives and leave me and My life out of... YOUR smoking drinking business PLEASE! NOT one of you is any better then me.....:thumbsup2
and hey...at least I am being HONEST! your not!

Nope don't drink don't smoke I'm miss goody two shoes and I always wear my seat belt. I have been rear ended at a stop sign and thank god I was seat belted. I am a safe driver but others are not.

My DH won't wear one unless I remind him, every single time.

I know it's because it feels restrictive to him (he's a big dude) and he just doesn't think of it, but this drives me insane because I know it is safer for him to wear one. Thankfully, the kids are used to seat belt use because they have worn them all their lives and always have them on. They also know that if I ever find out they drove with anyone who was not belted in their car, they would lose their right to drive (as long as they live in my house, that is the rule)

I don't even care about the insurance issue, I want my family to be as safe as possible in the event of a car accident.

My DH won't wear one in his car. He has to wear it in my car because it will beep until you put it on. I don't understand why he won't wear it in his own car though. If he gets pulled over he will get a ticket for not wearing it and he had a wreck a few months ago and was not wearing his seatbelt and ended up bumping his head pretty bad, which would not have happened if he had been wearing his seatbelt. I totally don't get it.

Actually many companies are now charging employees higher rates if they smoke. Some companies won't even hire smokers anymore. Life insurance charges higher premiums to smokers.

There are scientific studies that prove that there are health benefits to mederate comsumption of wine.

Now what were you saying? :confused3

PS--I don't care for beer.

From the teen board here, but sharing my two cents anyway.

I may not drive,or be old enough to drive, but I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt.
I feel naked without one.
My dad is also one who "forgets" to wear one, well he doesn't forget when I' backseat-driving him screaming at him to put it on.
I mean,he should know better,he was a paramedic back in the day.
My mom has a rule that she will not put the car in drive/reverse until everyone has the belt on,and I thank her for that.
In PA,we also have the "Click It or Ticket" program.
Now if only our school busses would get seatbelts, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Mickey~Mouse, I think you are being incrediby ignorant and immature.
You can choose not to wear a seatbelt, fine.
But when you say "I'm not going to wear one and you can't tell me what to do" "Hey,at least I'm honest, your not!" "I'm a better driver than you because I haven't had an accident", you sound like a child.
Call me hypocritical as I am only 14, but this is the impression I have of you.
Again, just my opinion.
Please do not flame.
