For the 3rd time in a week the local news is reporting a bad wreck with people ejected from teh vehicle. At least none of the latest bunch have life threatening injuries.

Is so simple, buckle up. :::::heavy sigh:::::

I don't get it either.

Back in October I hosted a dinner for the Varsity football team. 4 of the kids were late, they had been pulled over for not wearing seatbelts:confused3 and this was only a couple of weeks after our school lost a student in a roll over who did not have a seat belt on.

I have to get on my FIL also, he won't wear one, and gets all adament when I request he put it on. In the early years of my marriage I made him get out of my vehicle more than once. Now he grumbles, but he will put it on.

Personally, I feel totally naked, like something is missing if I don't have it on

I used to wear my seat belt without thinking. But somehow I fell out of the habit. It happened without thinking. I'm working hard to get back into the habit.

A friend of ours in college was killed when he apparently fell asleep and went off the road on the way home from hanging out with us. :guilty: He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. The truck rolled 2 and 1/2 times and he was ejected after the first roll. He was not yet 20 years old.

Well, my mother the ER nurse, called these people organ donors. One of her doctor friends said it was Darwinism in action.

In the late 70's my mother survived an accident because she did not have her seatbelt on. Something to do with the engine being pushed into the seat. It took me years to get her in the habit of wearing hers, and now she does, but for a long time she wouldn't because of the knowledge that if she had been wearing one that day, she'd be dead.

Once you lose someone you never forget to put it on. Dh was a good one for not wearing his, he would complain everytime I told him to put it on in my car.

I pulled into the cemetary one night pointed out a nice newer black headstone of someone I knew who had died 2 years before by not wearing it. End of discussion with me! (And my dd had better wear hers all the time or I will do the same with her when she is older!)

Are these people tourists? I'm wondering if that might be effecting the number.
But yeah, I've never gotten people who don't wear them.

I am a paraplegic due to a car accident. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt either. They told me if I was, the accident most likely would have killed me.

Still, I always wear a seatbelt now.

In the past couple of weeks there has been a rash of teenagers dying in car crashes locally. This morning two more young people died.:sad2:

I'm not sure what being a tourist would have to do with wearing or not wearing a seat belt. :confused3

DH hardly ever wears his seatbelt. I've given up arguing with him about it. :sad2:

As a kid he was in an accident and went through the windshield. Supposedly they said he would have died if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Fish out of water, strange car, or people leaving their brains and judgement at home.

I don't wear one...I know I should be I just don't. Of course everyone that rides with me has to:)

I don't understand it either. Seatbelts save lives, plain and simple. The number of accidents where someone would be better off not wearing a seatbelt is a TINY percentage compared to the number of accidents where seatbelts helped save lives. I just don't understand at all why someone would take that kind of a risk. It's not like car accidents are a rarity.

This happened to someone that my in-laws know. By some freak "miracle" they survived without wearing a seatbelt, so my in-laws don't. I think it's just an excuse that they use. They're also not too fond of carseats.

DH's very good friend died from a car accident because he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. He had just graduated college and was on his way home from an interview. :sad2:

My husband is the worst, and he should know better considering the number of bodies he's cut out of cars. He always puts it on, but it's always a few miles after he's pulled out into traffic.

I always try to throw the "your daughter in the back seat learns by example" line out there, but it never seems to sink in. :sad2:

All of the non-seatbelt wearers I've talked to give the "what if the car is on fire/underwater" excuse- that they would be able to get out of the car if they had to without a seatbelt on. I find that such a silly excuse- how incredibly small of a percentage of car accidents involve the passengers having to exit a burning or submerged car??!! :sad2: Some people just won't listen to reason. As Camicar said, I guess we need organ donors, and these folks can fill that need...

My car just got rear-ended a week ago tomorrow, and my husband still forgets to put his on!

My daughter was driving when it happened, and the paramedics told us had she not been wearing her seat belt, "her pretty face would have been imbedded in the steering wheel". :scared:
