Due to the ice storm coming to the NY area, I had to change my airline reservations and leave tonight instead of tomorrow morning. I have to wait until 1 pm to reach someone at Member services to get a room for the night. The regular reservation CM's can't access the DVC system, so if you've got to book an extra night off hours you have to pay cash. Luckily, I'm not leaving for the airport until 3 so I should be able to get a hold of MS before I go.

Now, I'm sure I'm not the first DVC member that this has happened to and I'm sure I won't be the last. Wouldn't it help members to have someone at Reservations that could help us in cases like this?

Unless something has changed, the front desk of the hotels (or perhaps it is actually the back office) IS able to do reservations on points when MS is closed (especially in "emergency" or unusual circumstances). I can vouch for this directly because we got stranded in Orlando by Hurricane Francis and had to try to get a points reservation on Labor Day 2004 for Labor Day night and the following night. The CM was very patient and said that they had a protocol for doing points reservations directly from their computers when MS was closed and the reservation was for that particular night. Indeed they were able to do it and the points ended up getting subtracted correctly etc. Try calling the resort directly to see if they can help you. We just called the resort we wished to stay at and lucked out on our first try at trying to find someplace to stay.

As the previous poster stated, it is possible.

Don't call CRO, they can't access DVC. Call the resort directly, if they have room they can book a villa on points.

Now the bad news is, finding availability is going to be a real problem.

I did call SSR, and they transferred me to CRO who said they had availability, but they couldn't book me on points. :confused3 Would I have better luck trying another DVC resort?

I think I'd stay offsite and then go check in for your regular ressie in the morning. You'll probably get a better room doing that than you will arriving at 8-9 PM at night.

Determination wins!!! I called the SSR number, spoke to that CM about our problem. She couldn't help me, but when asked if there was anyone , anywhere who could-she put me on hold and must have asked her manager or something. She came back on and said "I think I might have someone who can help you." She then transferred me to a lovely lady named Rosa who was happy to book us into our room tonight.

We don't even have to move tomorrow-we'll be in the same room until Friday!!! :cool1:

Glad you found someone to help! We had to do this once too when our airline was on strike. We could only get down by going a different airline through another city. It meant arriving a day early, and we were able to book on points right from the resort.

In addition to the DVC resorts being able to manage these situations, beginning in February, 2008 MS will be open 7 days per week.

Enjoy your trip! :)

Now that is great news!

With regard to the problems encountered by the OP, I had a slightly similar situation happen to me over the Thanksgiving holiday at Hilton Head. I wanted another room (in addition to the one I had on the 2 weekend nights) on points. The resort had availability but the young desk cm said that they couldn't do the transaction for me, as they have in the past. She said that procedures had changed. I should have asked for a manager in hindsight. The same cm had a difficult time checking us in to begin with.

We still had a great time as always!
