Why does the Disney site always show unavailable for campsites??

I've tried a dozen different dates, all the way into May of next year, and it always says "unavailable". Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any hints?

TIA
Xanthé

If I remember right there was the same problem last the end of last year, it seems they release blocks of campsites at different times. I couldnt get any for June but after Jan I had no problem..

Same here. Two weeks ago I couldn't get one on-line so I called. When I checked again yesterday it was showing sites, albeit only premium and partial, for the week that we booked in Feb on the phone.

Thank you so much! I was starting to feel a little silly. I think I'll just call directly to book...seems much easier :)

Thanks

That baffled me, too. Someone here suggested I expand my dates (and then cancel the unwanted ones) and that seemed to work. I still don't understand, though, if I keep hearing that occupancy at the Fort is down...why it's so hard to get a darn site?!

I think that I found a work around for the problem. When the first screen pops up, it always says that your dates are unavailable. If you click on the edit button on the left hand side of the page. You will get an option to edit the dates and resort locations. Change your resort from "Campgrounds" to the next one down on the list "Disney Fort Wilderness Campsites" then click the search again or search now button. You will now get the correct results.

As long as you use the resort choice of "Campgrounds", you will only get the cabins. You must change the resort choice to "Disney Fort Wilderness Campsites" to see what your looking for.

Disney programmers really do not test their work very well before going live.

Try that and let me know if it works for you !!!

That is what I always have to do to see any availability at all.

I am trying to get a site for NEXT Oct/Nov and it is only showing partial hook-up sites available. The dates I want are Oct.24-Nov.6. I can get it to show a premium available if I go from Oct.17 - Oct.31, but nothing for any November dates. I have called too and they can't come up with anything either. From what I understand they work from the same "bank" as the online booking, so it makes no difference to call or do it online.

The other really stupid thing is if I put in Oct.17-31 it shows me a premium site, but if I put in Oct.24-31 it shows nothing. How could there be a site available from the 17th, but not from the 24th?

I'm hoping if I just wait a while (maybe until Jan.) the sites will open up.

Does anyone know if I call the Fort directly if they can tell me for sure if there are sites available for those dates, or do I have to do it with reservations?

If you call the Fort directly, in all likelihood the phone is going to be first answered by someone at a call center nowhere near the Fort. And, even if you walk into the reception area of the Fort and ask about availability, the castmembers who work there don't have the information. They have to call the same center that you are calling. It is maddening!

When trying to make an online reservation, don't pick Campground from the initial drop down list. Pick "I Know the Resort I Want" and then from that drop down list, go to the very bottom and select Disney's Fort Wilderness Ca... (I can't see the rest. I assume Campground). ***Campground*** is also an option; but, that gives prices for the cabins.:confused3

You'd think with all the techy people WDW has on staff they would make their website more user friendly.

Trust me, I've been having the same problems with the stupid site. I wonder how full halloween night really is going to be, because I tried getting a site since like May and couldn't get one for that night. And even now looking for next year, I'm having a hard time. But I'm not having any issues when I search for September...

It looks like we will be there until Jan 8th. We have posted before that we tried to bring in friends for 3 camp sites and a cabin, Disney said they were sold out. We looped that night and the Fort was about 10-30% full. One of my friends spent 7 days in a cabin, he tried to extend and Disney told him the Fort was sold out and made him leave. For 4 days after, his Cabin was empty. I can’t say why it is so hard to spend money at Disney nowadays.

When we were there in August, CRO and the Front Desk told me that the fort was over 75% capacity. As I looped in the golf cart, there were no more than 3 campers in any loop. And several of the loops were closed for refurb. The place was 75% empty instead.

This is what I did and was able to get the dates I wanted in May. :thumbsup2

From earlier in this thread. Starting with "I know the Resort I Want", it took me straight to the camp sites.

Thanks!!! I hav been trying to get Halloween fo next year and it would say nothing was open. Doing this I just booked for next year....and I am so excited. We also booked in for Christmas and New Years for next year!!!

Haven,

What dates and type site were you able to book? I am trying to book 10/24/10-11/06/10 and still am only being shown partial hook-up sites. We need at least full hook-up, but would take anything up to premium.

We booked a premium site. Now I did book for 22 days but I will just call and cancel the days I don't need. Good Luck!

I had the same problem so I expanded my dates within the same time frame and sites were available. I called WDW and was told that the resorts can impose minimum stay restrictions. Per the CM that handled my ressie, "reserve the extra days now and in a couple of days call back and remove the days you don't once you finalize your travel plans.." she even said "wink wink" after she finished the advice. I called back 2 days later and canceled the extra dates with no problem.
