Why does my first grader need 20 LARGE glue sticks?

1-cigar type box for supplies

1-scissors w/metal point
1-box of tissues
1-bottle white glue
12-glue sticks
2-box of 48 crayons
1-box of baby wipes

I got a packet from my younger DS's preschool today with the calendar, supply list, etc. in it. So, that inspired me to go ahead and type up my shopping list for school supplies for him and my older DS who is a rising first grader.

On my older DS's list is 20 LARGE glue sticks. Holy cow, why in the world does he need that many large ones? For K, he needed 15 regular size ones. I just can't imagine what he'll be doing in the first grade that will require such a massive consumption of glue!

Unless I find a kick-butt sale, I'll be spending $35 on glue alone.

Coming from my mom a FIRST GRADE TEACHER IN VA, the kids tend to go through the gluesticks fast and with the curriculum (sp?) they tend to do a lot of glueing on projects. So they request 20 large gluesticks so every week you don't have to go buy a thousand more gluesticks.

This is the one time I LOVE our PTA fundraisers. I pay $30 per kid and all my kids school supplies are delivered to the classroom on the first day of school. The PTA orders the supplies in bulk using the schools discount and they make money and we save money and time. Everyone wins!!

Actually the kid who was in 1st grade in 2007 would be starting his senior year this year (I think I did my math right). Wonder if he still needs glue sticks.

6 out of 10 zombies polled said you need 20 glue sticks to out run zombies. You just put the glue sticks under everyone else's feet and run. Then the zombies catch everyone else.
2 out of 10 zombies said they eat glue sticks when there are no brains available.
2 out 10 zombies told us to bring them 6 more humans with 20 glue sticks each. We said we'd work on that and got out of there quickly.

I think I got one for my DS for $30 (maybe $50) off Craigslist. Even found a procedure online that tested everything so I knew I wasn't getting something busted.

I just placed a pick up in store staples order last week, pencils, a few folders, some one subject notebooks, one three subject, and a couple of composition notebooks, plus two graphing calculators (dd22, ds20 and dd17 still use theirs, so no hand me downs). It’s cheaper to have 3 kids in HS than 5 in elementary.

LOL. The first Walmart opened in my town just as my son was starting school. 100 sheets of binder paper for 5 cents. 200 pencils for $2, 200 pens for $2. I think I dropped $30. Got both my son and daughter through school. My son is 31 now and I STILL have pencils, pens AND binder paper left over!

As pp mentioned, maybe it’s a typo. They probably meant 2 glue sticks. That’s my guess.

My guess is that they ask for so many items so they can pool them. Then if a kid can't afford an item, it's drawn from the pool.
