So Lilo T Fluffycat is 15 months old now. And in the past two months ago, she meows a lot more than ever before. When she was a kitten, she would barely say anything. Now all we hear at 3AM is her sitting on the TV in the bedroom staring at the ceiling and going "Meow!". Not like a "oh my god! something's wrong" Meow . . . but rather a "Hey look at that" meow.
we've always talked to her while she was growing up, so maybe its her saying "hey you two, wake up! i'm bored!"
maybe its just a phase . . .

My female does this at night. In her case, it happens when she's asleep somewhere other than the bedroom when we go to bed. Then, 2AM rolls around, she wakes up, and I take the meows to mean "what the heck? Where is everyone?". Our male was a total whiner for the first several years of his life, but he's given it up now...he's too lazy to whine anymore I guess :rotfl: We never thought that he'd stop whining, so perhaps there is hope for Lilo

???? If shes healthy I wouldn't worry about it, if she hasn't had a checkup recently I would have her checked out.

My first thought was to ask if she was a Maine Coon. My 4 Maine Coons are the most verbal felines you would ever set your eyes...or should I say EARS on!!!!

I have to ask... is she spayed?

If so, maybe she's just bored. How about a friend to keep her company? :goodvibes

Doesn't it freak you out when cats look up at the ceiling and cry? I have a male cat that does that frequently. What the heck are they seeing? I guess we mere mortals will never know. :confused3

One of our old cats George (since departed) used to sit in the corner and look up meowing. We decided that there was something in the wall or he could see something we couldn't. :scared1:

There is a story/fable that cats meow at the ceiling because there are little creatues called "greeblins" up there. Google it and there should be something about it, it's cool/spooky.

Maybe it's heat or another cat close by that she is calling to? We have some strays and it seems whenever they are outside our kitty is meowing.

Regarding the looking at the ceiling and crying comment, I've experience this too... and it's even more strange because in our old apartment our cat use to stare at the corner where I had our son/daughter's memorial hung at and she would meow constantly. Strange!

Thanks for all the quick resonses! Lilo is spayed, and we don't have any cats wandering around our apt, so i don't think its either one of those.
the climbing thing is probably b/c she's part himilayan.
i guess its just one of those wierd cat things.

Thank goodness! I thought that our female was the only ceiling-staring weirdo out there. Good to know that she has company :rotfl:

:confused3 Hi everyone!! I just got a new kitten and I'm having a bit of a problem w/him. He meows too much and it's taken him a long time to go to the bathroom. Can anyone please give me some advice? :confused3

Take the cat to the VET as soon as possible. He could have a urinary blockage which is often fatal.

Let us know how he's doing but, please, call the Vet today!!

Candida, take your cat to the vet. There's a kidney/urinary problem there.

hAm53, your cat sounds like she "found her voice". When we first got Teddy, our dog, he hardly barked. He was 10 months old...we got him from a family that couldn't keep him. He wasn't very well-trained, so we took him to obedience school. The trainer asked us if he had found his voice yet. He explained that many species of animals are fairly quiet until 12-15 months of age, when they suddenly discover their bark, meow, hiss, tweet or whatever. Our was about 12 months old, and about 2 weeks after the trainer made this statement, Ted started barking and hasn't stopped!!!! ;) Maybe your Lilo found her voice!!!!

As far as the staring and meowing thing. Ted does that at our house too. He stares at this one part of the kitchen counter (and it is not where his cookies are kept) and barks. I say to him "What's wrong Ted? Is Stanley sitting on the counter?" Stanley is the person who built and owned our house for 50 years, till he died and we bought it. Soon as I say that, Ted stops barking. I am convinced that Stanley stops by once in a while to check on his house, and Ted is the only one who "sees" him.

::yes:: Definitely. Take him to the vet ASAP.

:rotfl: Well everyone Meshew is happy that he finally went to the bathroom!! :cool1: I took him to the Vet. and she said that he probably hasn't gone because of the change in his diet. His previous owner use to give him cat food w/milk. :confused3 The vet. said that stopping the milk was good!!! That him taking long to go to the bathroom could also have been nerves. You know change in house and no other kittens around. Thanks everyone for your help and concern
