Not sure if this is a scam since they used my first and last name.
I was from Amazon saying someone who knows my password is trying to log into my account.
It goes on that sounds like it was from on iPhone.
It gave a validation code and to click on a link to deny.
It sounds like it could be a scam but then again they used my first and last name.
I check my Amazon and there’s no orders on my account.
Strange too cause when I went to my account a page pops up to put in my phone number so they can contact me if there’s an issue with my account.
I suppose I should change my pasdword
What would you think of this

I would ignore it. And, possibly, change my password.

Change the password and make sure to put your phone number on your account from within your Amazon profile. Otherwise if your account gets hacked the hacker could put their phone number in and you will be in a world of hurt since it will be the number on your account but you can’t verify it.

If Amazon locks down your account due to suspected hacking attempts you cannot even login. Happened to me on Black Friday a couple years back, all of the sudden I couldn’t login. I had to to call, got passed to security, had to answer a crap ton of questions (what credit cards are on your account? What is the last item you saved for later? They were legit hard q’s as I go through tons of credit cards for sign up bonuses and I was sharing my account with fam at the time lol). Finally, they gave me back access to the account.

Latest scam we got was a really convincing one claiming to be from Bank of America.
Very sophisticated, these scams have gone to the next level.

Lots of Pay Pal Scams and we don't use Pay Pal and they almost convince us we do.

We monitor and control all of the Grand Parents finances. They are really hit with all kinds of scams.

Definitely a scam - it’s good you changed your password ::yes:: 👍🏻

I heard someone say that his wife got a call from the bank needing some verification or something and it sounded legit and was asking all these questions and she actually stalled and kept the person on the phone while she drove to the bank and handed the phone to the employee......they asked their employee id number and the caller hung up....

and I laughed SO HARD :)

It's a scam. Forward the email (as an attachment if you can) to Amazon. Don't ever click on a link in the email. Sign into your account directly. For what it's worth, Amazon will never 'call you' regarding your account. You have to contact them. I use 2 step verification, and while it's a pain sometimes, when I didn't use it, someone in France bought a Prime subscription. I had to call Amazon and they had to put me in touch with someone in France to get it taken care of.

Ours got hacked, they used $500 worth of gift cards, it took an entire year to straighten out (it was a security breach, they also hacked my email and cell phone account).

More than likely a scam.

You seem to think since they have your first and last name that it might be legitimate. Having those are NOT a sign something is legitimate.

If you even suspect an email is a scam, look at the return address. Does it match with other addresses you've done business with that company (look at the part after the @ symbol). Make sure you're looking at the full email address, not just the display name. 1744981991252.png
"Hertz Gold Plus Rewards" is the DISPLAY NAME. A user can make that anything they'd like. It's a lot harder to change the email address.

Even if someone claiming to be from a bank/credit card company/etc. would ever call and start asking for info, I would tell them you are going to hang up and call that company yourself. Go to their official website to get a legit phone # to call. Calling that number you know you are actually talking to someone who works for that company.

The company already HAS your security information and can look it up in their database. I can't name ANY legit reason why a company would ever call to ask you for information they already have access to. Whomever calls asking for that information would be a huge red flag to me regardless of what company they claim to work for.

Surprised you got the money back! Amazon is notorious for not giving back gift card money in situations like that since gift cards don’t have the federal protections like credit and debit cards have.

Probably depends on how much they value the customer. I've heard about them closing accounts for people that return too much stuff.

Kind of the same thing happened to me a couple months ago. Mine was a push notification though from the app. It seemed legit (I honestly don’t know if they someone could actually hack into an app to send a notification), but I didn’t click that link. I went right to Amazon and changed my password just to be safe.

I saw my first one a week or so ago. I got a voice mail for "Publishers Clearing House" excitingly letting me know that I had just won 18.5 Million Dollars, plus $5000 per month for the next 2 years and a brand new Mercedes. All I had to do was call a number where they could get the paper work done for me.

A couple of things jumped out at me. The first one was that I had never entered a PCH contest. Second, I couldn't wrap my brain around why would they think it was necessary to give me $5K per month for two years and a new car after they had given me $18.5 mil.

So I went on line to PCH and they immediately displayed a message stating that someone was scamming. Then said that anything over $500 would have been delivered in person, no phone call done at all. I was rich for about 10 minutes and I have to admit that it took a day to stop thinking about what I would spend that much on, and frankly it was a very nice feel, but an awful letdown at the same time.
