Why does liquid Tide smell so good in the bottle but does a poor job?

Does anyone have good luck with this detergent? It seems whenever it's tried, clothes and especially towels smell AWFUL afterwards. What could cause it? We have a well FWIW, not sure if the water would make a difference.

I only use liquid Tide and I think it does a great job. I've tried switching to other detergents and keep coming back to Tide. I do not like using powdered detergent - it always leaves a residue on my clothes.

I wonder why? Tide is the only detergent I will use because I love the smell!! I've had people at work comment that my clothes smell good too and I don't get that close to them and they still notice!!

i have used Tide forever!!! Make sure you switch the wet stuff to the drier ASP, even an hour or two causes my clothes and towels to smell!!

I totally hear you, which is why I'm so confused. I have a student whose mom uses it and I love it whenever I catch a whiff of the good smell. I don't get why it doesn't work for me.

We use liquid Tide and have a well. I haven't noticed a bad smell. I did buy the Tide with Febreez last time and our cat doesn't like it. We keep a towel covering her 2 favorite chairs and since I washed the towels in the new Tide she refuses to sit in them!

I love it, especially the Mountain Fresh or Mountain Air or whatever it's called. I think it's the best smelling detergent out there. My clothes have the same scent out of the drier as the detergent smells in the bottle.

Do you think maybe something is wrong with your drier or with the water backing up into your washer? What is the "bad smell" like?

Both washer and dryer are ~5yrs. We don't get the funky smell w/ liquid gain or liquid arm and hammer. Just the tide.
