Why does life keep happening to me!!!!

No offense to all of you, but it is nice to see others face the same hell I face at times.
This is one way I have been saving. I may be lucky to have a Disney store close to my house, but I was told about this by a friend of mine. This was take 15 or 20 dollars or more or less what ever you could afford every other week and buy Disney Dollars and stash them away, kind of like a savings acct.
I know at least in my area D. D.'s where hard to find. So unfortunatly my amount isn't as much as i would have liked but it's enough coupled with what savings I have.
What is nice about the D.D.'s are you can only use them In WDW, DL, or disney stores. So you always have them until your trip. Plus when your trip end and if you haven't used up your D.D.'s you can cash them in at the MK guest services. Or save them till your next trip.
Hopefully some of you can utilize this tip for future vaca's to Disney.

I was going to suggest a yard sale also. Along w/ that you could sell Plasma at a plasma center.

this CANT be for real.... for disney? If you have to sell plasma the last thing that needs to be done is wdw!I am sorry but IF it is that bad maybe you should reschedule for later in the year.

Last time I needed brakes (right before our last disney trip, actually) they wanted to charge me $300 at one place and $400 at another! I don't think that was rotors, just brakes. DH did them for less than $50.

So since June, DH and I have put $400 a month in our savings account on which to go to Disney in september.....15 days away!!! Well now we have NO money in savings cause these LIFE things keep coming up. UGH!!! We leave on September 11th and have no money in our savings to go. He gets paid on the 2nd of September and once again when we are at Disney, but still.....Just makes me mad. We should have $1200 in savings right now....we have ZERO!!! BLAH!! Ok, Im sorry just had to vent. Please dont flame for this.....its not cause we spend wildly, just things happen.

Hmm, to answer your thread title, Its much better than the alternative.

sounds like you need to cancel the trip, use the money to fix the 'ol family truckster. maybe take a staycation, and plan for next year.

You can get a refund if you cancel, up to the day before with a relative small penality.

If someone gave you the trip, have it refunded to them, and ask if they would loan you half the amount so that you could take care of your basic family needs.

At some time in our lives, we all have cash flow problems, you just have to prioritize what is important. And vacations are not that important when compaired to taking care of the family and kids.

The name of my Mechanic is Dale.......Hes my hubby!!!! LOL

Brake pads aren't hard-- DH taught himself to do it! (and yes, properly!) It cost us $29 for the pads for the front. It took him probably 35 or so minutes. If your DH is handy, have him try it. I'll never ever pay for brakes again! When our rotors go bad, we're going to do those too.

DH is kinda handy. Hes an ASE Master Mechanic.....I am thankful every day for that. Especially since we have always had clunkers and now have a nice vehicle he can take care of.

Cant Donate plasma or blood cause I had surgery in June and my blood count is only at 8.5!!! It seems stuck at that number and Yea im takin iron pills....

Thanks for your advice. but I never said we couldnt take care of the fam. I said we didnt have money in our savings. But DH and I sat down and crunched some numbers and since he gets paid three times in september we are able to pay some bills and have some $$$ left to go on the trip after all. He will get a pay check on the 2nd for us to use to get there, then again on the 16th which we can use some of it for souvies, and then the rest for bills when we get back. so I think we'll be ok. Thanks for your help!!!

My hubby and I feel the same way, we get ahead and then a million things happen. I broke my ankle at the end of June, still no disability benefits received, and I go back to work Monday. The state owes me over 4200. in benefits. We realized we could pay the bills on DH salary, just not have any left over for extras. We are over two weeks out from our trip and I hope and pray that my check comes in. Then last night we had a storm, electricity went out and when it came back on our air conditioner and wall oven are dead. So now we have more problems to contend with, with zero money. Life happens and we have to deal with it, makes us stronger, but frustrated !! I feel your pain, sista !!

daleswife... I feel your pain! You have plans to get ahead... then things happen... and you're not behind per se... just stuck at the status quo. We just had to buy a new car when the old one we hoped would last until spring, didn't! We can afford the payments, but we wanted to squirrel away some of that money beforehand to make a larger downpayment later on.

People do the plasma stuff all the time. I know a TON of people who do it. Not just for money either. A group of people here started doing it because one of their family members was helped out by a plasma center and they wanted to give back. A LOT of people do it all the time. Why so judgemental over a suggestion?

I feel you on the Iron thing. I have a number of reasons I cant donate blood and I feel horrible about it all the time. Anemia is just one of the reasons. I'm there w/ you at a 8.5 also.

"life" has been happening to us in a big way over the last year:

-September 10: my mastectomy
-September 18: my father in law died
-mid November: my baby sitter was in a car accident. She was eventually OK, but was out till after Christmas
- Thanksgiving weekend: my 2 daughters came home with head lice.
- January 6-end of Feb: 28 treatments of radiation for me
- mid Janauary: a pregnancy scare, 10 days into radiation That was also the same day my department chairman observed my class
- early March: we came home to find that our 7 year old dog had died while everyone was at school
- late March: my oncologist suggested I see an endocrinologist because of a goiter on my thyroid. While the biopsys came back negative, he wanted the right lobe of my thyroid out anyway, since the mass is so large that he may simply have missed something. (That surgery is this Tuesday, Sept. 1, the first day of the school year for me.)
- April 10: 1st round of reconstructive surgery. I was home from the hour 2 hours when my mom called to say my niece's 2 year old daughter had died.

There have been other day-to-day annoyances-- like paying al the bills that insurance doesn't cover. But I've got to tell you: I'm really, REALLY getting sick of the black cloud over my house!!!

But I've come to realize that, as long as it's something we can recover from, it's not a big deal. Hang in there-- you'll have a wonderful time at Disney, even if you do go on austerity. If you're not so broke that you're considering cancelling the trip, you'll sort it all out sooner or later.

when my daughter gets in a tight for mad money she goes through her daughters clothes and sells her used clothes. She made 750 bucks a few weeks ago! Granted she buys nice clothes for her (Gymboree) but they resell VERY well!!! Other children's clothes sell well too just not as well as thouse...she also shops at Target!!! Good luck!
