Why does everyone seem to trash the Disney Visa?

I really don't think it's such a bad deal. I use my card a lot and never carry a balance. No annual fee. I don't pay any interest. I started using it exclusively early this year and now have 489 Disney dollars. By the time we take our trip to the World next year, I should have about $800 to spend, which will make a nice dent in our food expenses.

I used to use my AA card exclusively (with a $50 annual fee). It takes 25,000 miles to get a ticket - but the tickets to Orlando usually cost around $210 from here. So I'm better off getting $250 Disney dollars for the same amount of purchases.

What am I missing?

Although I don't have one, and won't............I think you are the exception. Many people feel the rewards are too low, that they are entitled to better discounts, that they get more "deal" offers. But the card is what it is. There are tons of reward cards out there, if you don't like the Disney card, then you should look into others.

I would love to have those kind of dollars available for a Disney vacation. More power to you!

ETA I type so poorly!

Wait what did I miss?????

Disney has a CC??????

gotta find it

I think that Marsha hit the proverbial nail on the head. The old Magic Kingdom Club provided a 10% discount on many Disney items. The Disney Visa is a mere 1% discount. Granted that you get the discount for everything that you purchase with the card, but you have to buy a lot of stuff to get the same benefit.

Another complaint is that you lose all of your earned Disney Dollars if you are late making a payment. The rules for the card are very restrictive.

Personally, I like the Disney VISA. I get a 1% reward, which is comparable to other cards. I use it for as much as I can (making sure to pay the bill IN FULL every month), so we had almost $400 "free" to use on our recent cruise.

I don't look at it as a poor MKC replacement. It isn't. The loss of MKC sucked & still does, but my DVC membership works in it's place in some places @ WDW.

I started getting interested in Disney trips just as they were phasing out the MK Club...ignorance is bliss, I guess.

I don't have to add anything to this--this (except for the $400--I had about $50 to use for this year's trip) is my opinion on this card. The rewards are just about the same as my other reward cards. And I miss the MK club very much.

I love our Disney Visa card because so far we have enough money to buy one free annual pass and hopefully, by the time we need to replace our current annual passes we will have enough to buy another one. We pay it off every month online and the money we've earned for the annual passes is free money. I never saved anywhere near this much money with the Disney Club!

We love our Disney Visa! ::yes:: We've got a good pile of reward dollars already (we got ours in Feb.)!! We only got it for the reward dollars, not for any special offers, so we're happy with it. :)

I like it too. We are using at as our debit card so we can pay it off each month. But I didn't know that if your payment was late you lost all your dd????

Because I don't want to be in debt, therefore I carry no Credit Cards. It's to easy for me to go in debt, for those with the willpower to pay it off every month, I envy you. I just can't do it.

Plus, I don't think charging $1000 to get $1 back is a great deal.

I prefer Blue from Amex. One of their options is cash back. They pay approx 2%, which is double the rate paid by the Disney card. Also, cash is more flexible than Disney dollars. Blue also offers even higher returns if you use your points to rent cars or against airfare. We are using our points to pay for our rental car on our Decemeber vacation. I figure the rate of return will be about 3% (3 times higher than Disney's 1%)

I also resent that Disney took away the Magic Kingdom Card and the Disney Club and replaced them with this card which does not provide anywhere near the discounts that those older programs offered.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

also, just on general principle, we decided we wouldn't get it because we were very upset about them taking away mkc/dc. mkc and even dc offered better discounts (for us anyways) than the disney visa does.

we also have another reward card that gives us better deals.

I believe that's true of any rewards credit card, no?

I know with American Express, you lose that month's worth of points. I was late ONE time after having the card for years. They gave me back the points for a fee

I just got the Universal Mastercard, but I'm not sure how their points work.

I personally miss the MK club because ANYONE could enjoy the benefits. If you are denied the Visa, then you get none. Plus, you received the DISNEY MAG with the club membership. I know DISNEY wants more and more ways to make money but,,,, I think they should have kept the MK club along with running the VISA program.

You get $1 for every $100 spent. They also offer double points sometimes. Here is what we got so far with the Disney Visa:

-$25 sign up bonus
-Pay for 4 nights get 7 nights Dreammaker package with $100 Disney Dollars at check in
-$50 shipboard credit on DCL
-$10 Dream Rewards Dollars for charging anything before 8.21.04
-Double Rewards Dollars for the next year on certain purchases over $150 (gas, drug stores, utilities, cell phone, groceries, movies, dining, video rentals, etc..)

So DV gave us $185 for having the card plus the reward dollars we earn. The package made the Poly GV concierge cheap too!

I do miss the FREE MKC though:( Great discounts.

Unfortunately not everyone got that offer. Or some had to charge over $850/month to be eligible for that offer. Bummer

Yes, sorry my math mistake, still I just don't do cc's.

Thanks for the correction

I have to charge over 250.00/mo to get double rewards. I don't mind at all. I quit paying with a check for almost EVERYTHING!!!

So far this month I have spent about 1250.00. That's probably 13 reward dollars. I am ok with that.

I pay it off constantly during the month. I have 75 reward dollars now. Opened another account for the free 50 reward dollars and DH opened another account for the free 50 reward dollars. So far, we have 175 reward dollars. I just became a charter member last September.

I am liking it just fine. :teeth:
