Why Does a Mickey Bar Cost $3.49?

Actually OP has a point...

There's the guest who filed suit because "Disney should have known it would rain and built the park under a dome"

There's the guest who wanted medical car for thier busted ear drum... caused by the "sudden pressure descent" in the 'Hydrolators" at the Living Seas.

And so forth (and no, I didn't make those up, they were confirmed to me by someone at Disney once :) )

That is your American legal system that allows those suits to go through in the first place. :thumbsup2

The real problem is a society where people think they somehow have the absolute right to never be insulted, made uncomfortable, or inconvenienced. When it happens they need someone to blame and expect to be compensated or catered to.

It's everywhere, not just at Disney.

Disney is one of the only parks that still let's u bring in any food u want. You can bring a whole picnic if u want. Unlike stadiums and airports and other parks u are not hostage to their prices. If you think Disney is to high then quit going and if you think the Mickey bar is to high then bring in a can of corn and don't buy the Mickey bar!!!;)

For some reason I don't mind paying $3.50 for a Nestle ice cream cookie sandwich (I prefer those to Mickey bars) at Disney. Maybe because I rarely eat sweets when not in Disney.

But as an avid water drinker, what I do find egregious is spending $2.75 for a single bottle of water. I can get a whole case of water at Costco for like 4 bucks!

You can get ice water for free though;) and it's in a regular sized cup with a lid. Other places give you a tiny cup with no lid. Or you can bring your own water in.

As I see it any theme park/ amusement park out there, charge more for food. It come with it. If you don't like the price then don't buy one. I kinda see your point, but this is the norm or food at theme parks.

Have you ever seen anyone bilk Disney, heard any stories?

Nope. But Disney is trying to bilk me out of $280.00 for a twice cancelled California Grill reservation that I didn't cancel!

It's a long story, but a Guest Services Cast Member cancelled our reservation by accident when DH stopped to ask a question about it. We had no idea it was cancelled until we received a phone call asking for our credit card information because they were trying to get it back. Long story short, we ended up with no reservation, an offer of a reservation at an unacceptable time (9:30 p.m. with a 4 year old just won't work for our family), an assurance that we would not be charged a cancellation fee for refusing the second reservation, and a cancellation fee (that shouldn't have been charged at all) charged not once, but twice.

This happened the 16th. I just want to know if we'll be refunded, but no one seems to know if or when I'll be refunded my money. To make matters worse, no one at Disney seems to care.

Bilking Disney? I say go for it. In my experience, they have no problem bilking their customers.

A Mickey Bar Costs $3.49 because people who want one are willing to pay that amount.

If no one bought them, they'd either lower the price, or, as any good marketer will tell you, they'd RAISE the price to $4.50, announce that there's only a certain number available, and people would run each other down to get one "of the few". ;).... popcorn::

Disney is a business. They sell an ice cream bar for 4 times what it's worth and people buy them. It's not about a good value, it's about making money.

I think the OP is making a political statement, but, honestly, I don't really care or think about politics, economics and common sense when I'm at Disney. I go there to ESCAPE thinking about what is and isn't wrong in this country, the world..... I go there to experience the Magic and I know darn well I'm paying too much. Who cares???? :goodvibes

I also LOVE Mickey Bars and eat 2 or 3 every day sometimes when I'm in MK. :dance3::dance3:

Call your credit card company and dispute the charges. Explain what happened and they'll remove them. I know from similar experiences. Not with Disney, but with other companies charging me when they weren't supposed to.

Sorry this happened. We've had it happen several times over the years, and with high CDN exchange at the time, it cost even more. The accounting department can be hit and miss at Disney. I've waited a few weeks before for a credit, and last month, I only waited 2 days when I cancelled our dining plans due to our trip cancellation.

Also remember, credit card companies take a few days to post transactions sometimes as well.

Not necessary. It's only been a couple of days, and so she needs to give it a reasonable amount of time to see a refund. Hubby is a banker, and he tells people to give it at least 5-7 business days, as you have the Dining division needing to communicate to the accounting department, and then it all needs to be posted on the credit card.

Once you dispute charges, credit card company has to do a bunch of paperwork, and investigate with the company, and so a couple of days is hardly enough time to initiate such a process.

Of course, it's up to the OP, but I think it's a bit soon for this.

Probably. I was just offering a viable alternative to being upset and calling for others to bilk Disney. :)

If it were me, I'd wait a couple of weeks and see, and then dispute the charge if it didn't go away.

I know it will take some time to see the refund. The problem is that I can't get anyone to tell me that I WILL get a refund--especially for the second charge. I don't even have a confirmation number for that one. That, plus I'm really annoyed that it was taken in the first place! We didn't cancel it. Disney did--without our knowledge or consent. Someone made a mistake, which is fine. Mistakes happen. But I don't think it's too much to expect to be told whether I'll be refuned the full $280 and approximately when I can expect a refund will be processed. This was my budget trip. Every penny was accounted for, and this really screws things up.

You need to call and speak to supervisor, ASAP, and you need to explain that you don't have the funds to cover it.

Good luck, Tiger

I have seen some CMs be "attacked" by guests who wanted something for "Free" or something they weren't entitled to...

Front desk staff are really under the gun.

(Of course my personal favorite was the guest at the Beach Club SCREAMING that her TA had guranteed her an OCEAN view and all she could see was some old lake CM actually had a map out trying to explain WHY he could not help her out!)

Thanks for gettin' it, really, seriously, I'm glad the thread wasn't a total waste.

And of course, everyone's learned ya can get free binkys at the Baby Station. :rotfl:

I love it that Disney lets you bring your own food in. Many theme parks and amusement parks charge higher prices for food than Disney plus don't let you bring food and drink in. The Disney policy gives you options, so I'd be the last person to complain about Disney food prices. With our party of 10 we usually bring in about 15 sandwiches, lots of juice boxes, blueberries, grapes, cheese crackers, granola bars, etc. We bring in a soft sided cooler and a few cooler backpacks. Plus we eat a big breakfast before coming. The only thing we do buy are usually a few drinks and those Mickey Bars (one desert treat of choice for each person). Mickey bars are similar to the Dove bars you can buy at the grocery store -- The Dove bars even purchased at the supermarket are pretty expensive too. It' interesting too that even though they are essentially the same thing somehow the Mickey bars just taste so much better and those ears are totally irresistable.

Have you had the Dole Whips? I used to get a Mickey bar, but once I tried the Dole Whips, that was it:goodvibes

100% true. I work in a High guest service oriented retail position . The consumer expects a lot, wanting discounts, wanting to apply multiple coupons on purchases. That one really gets me.I totally get what the OP is trying to say, Everything is worked into our prices shrink , theft, discounts and a certain level of guest satisfaction.

It's also supply and demand that's why a popcorn and soda at the movies is $15.00.

I "think" I get what the original poster was trying to get to....now this didn't happen in Disney, it actually happened up here in the "great white north" BUT

I was on a bus trip and there was one guy who would eat about 1/2 a meal and then call the waitresses at whatever restaurant we were at and complain (not quite what he ordered, too cold, could taste onion, etc), so they would do whatever they had to do and not charge him for a meal he wasn't satisified with before he made a bigger scene. About 1/2 way through the trip, one of the people on the bus mentioned something about why he always seems to get something that doesn't taste good or there's something wrong with, but the rest of us have been lucky. His statement was "Oh, I learned to do this years ago - I get to eat but never have to pay for a meal. There really wasn't anything wrong with it at all" :scared1: I was totally gob-smacked (as were a lot of other people on the bus tour). After that, most people didn't even want him sitting at their table for the rest of the trip....I know that sometimes, the waitresses have to cover the cost of the unsatisified customer (but probably not at Disney) but they do have to suffer the humiliation and complaining....

Am I on the right track here, or did I just have a major de-railment?:confused3

Is what you're saying that if people WITHOUT legitimate complaints weren't compensated, then the price of things "could" be cheaper??

You got it! :thumbsup2

And I'd like to see managers back up their employees by tellin' the disgruntled 'n grifters to get the hell out and/or call security to deal with the obnoxious.

One more thing, love the word gob-smacked. :goodvibes
