Why do YOU post/read the Budget Board?

I'm a deluxe gal who loves the budget board. I like tips on how to save money while spending money (would that be an oxymoron LOL) and seeing what deals are around.

Remeber also that ever thing is relative. Some one might be sending their kids to the fancy summer camp but might be eating PB&J and saving every penny to do it. It depends. Also if I make 120K a year in some parts of the country that is a pretty good salary but for me in NJ suburbs of Philly, that's very middle class.

Heck- if our property taxes go up any higher- the 120K will put us in the "low class" catagory:guilty::sad2:

I'm all about VALUE. I try to get the most bang for my buck.

There are things that I am willing to splurge on and many things I just can't bring myself to spend the extra money on.

I like reading the BB to see how to make the most of my money, what good deals are out there, and to reinforce the fact that a rainy day fund is crucial so I need to save and not waste my money.

It's pouring out right now but I'm lucky to have a big enough umbrella to still keep dry. I will do all in my power not get wet if I can help it.

I grew up fairly poor, so I learned how to shop early. Mom would always show me her receipt from the grocery store and between double coupons, dented cans and overripe bananas she would always average 60% off (I thought this made her a superhero!) She had to, feeding three kids on $6000 a year. Thank God she passed on her genes to me, so even when I made a comfortable income, I still will not buy if it is not a bargain or spend when not necessary.
This mindset has ruined me for Concierge level, Valet parking, Room Service, first class and many other niceties that my wife would love for me to give in to. I have yet to discover the mythical Minibar of $5 beverages.
It also has led me to buying DVC, flying way cheap (thanks DIS), and buying for Xmas at 75% off clearance in July. We ship water to our villa from staples, and have sent a box of souvenirs TO WDW to give to our kids..ha ha! We stretch our dollars, so that we are that much more comfortable with what we've got, and so we are prepared if we ever don't have it anymore.
My kids will surely learn that they don't get the newest and the best, because 2nd best and last year's is usually 1/3 the price. If they learn that they can get twice as much and still only pay 2/3 that way, then I will be sure that they inherited my Mom's genes too!

I read it because I'm poor but I still want to take vacations to Disney World! Gotta compromise somehow, right?

:thumbsup2

I find it ironic that the tag line is something like "every dollar saved is another dollar for Disney" and it seems that Disney trips -- past, present, and future -- get you flamed if you post here.

Just sayin'...

(BTW, when I first saw your name my brain registered it as a very un-Disney thing. :rolleyes1)

With a extended family of 18 who like to vacation together, If I can save some one in my family, hassle, time and money. I will do so. After 8 years on active duty, and being a military family we save money where ever we can.

This board inspired me to get out of debt, except for the mortgage. I never even used to look at this board but now check it out often for motivation to not overspend. I also enjoy the general economic discussions and have gotten some great money saving ideas. I love Disney and it's safer for me to be here than the other boards (too tempting to schedule more Disney vacations than we can afford).

LOL. Maybe the board needs a new slogan. "Every dollar spent at Disney is another dollar not saved" or "Every dollar in debt is from another dollar for Disney". or "budget board - where debt is a four letter word"

Maybe "budget board - the DIS can I afford it segment - where the posters decide if you are approved or denied"

"budget" is relative to your circumstance. That is the nice things about this board there's something for everyone

Ok I'm confused here.

I honestly thought most posters on this board stay at the Pop Century, pay rent, have limited income and are here for tips for saving for a Budget Disney trip.
:confused3

We've got people with incomes of $300k- $500k
Kids that go to expensive Summer Camps
A guy who wants to lug a suitcase of Spam and Tuna Fish to a Luxury Carribean Resort.

So what exactly IS the purpose of the Budget Board?:confused3;)

That's too funny! Guess I missed the post about lugging spam and tuna to a luxury resort.:lmao:

I guess it doesn't matter if someone makes a lot of money - they could also have spent it all already, or owe on their million dollar home and boat and three cars, so they need to clip coupons too like the rest of us.:rolleyes1

I come here to look for deals - sales that I didn't know about, free stuff, etc., not necessarily Disney related. Right now, a trip to WDW is out of the question for us, but I like hearing about other's trips and it's fun to be surrounded by all things Disney. princess:

How's it hangin' freebie sista!?

Yup- we know how to save- I bought a gift certificate for $10 off from Restaurant.com for only pennies when we had lunch all b/c of the BB!!!!:thumbsup2

I love Restaurant.com!:thumbsup2

I am addicted to that place. DH said I have to stop buying the gift certificates- he does not understand that you can get great deals when they have 80% off! And yes, we do use them;)

hi Honey! Sorry I missed this yesterday. Yep, I forgot to add Restaurants.com to my list of great things on the BB. Where else can you get to buy a dinner for 4, 4 drinks, 2 appetizers, all for less than $20-including the tip AND the cost of the GC?

Without the BB and a few well chosen battles, we never would have hooked up!!

That is seriously awesome. :rotfl2:
