Why do you love it?--A Thread for Positivity

I have had a really rough couple of years, and Disney reminds me of my childhood. It makes me happy, and allows me to escape things for a while.

I like it because DH loves it. It's familiar and easy to get to from NYC. We don't have to think about how we are going to fill our day there's plenty to do if we want to do something and a nice pool outside the door when we just want to relax.

Yes...need some positive vibes here on the boards for sure! For me it is just plain fun! And I get to feel like a kid again. I can wear clothes there that I don't feel silly wearing...I have lots of Mickey garments, watch, jewelry, etc. Sometimes at home I just feel out of place with my Mickey shirt and my Disney Dooney. But going to WDW really just makes me feel carefree. Kind of like the commercials that ran a few years ago (can't remember if it was a Disney ad or an Orlando ad)..adults entered a ride, but kids emerged. I leave tomorrow morning for Pop Century...can't wait!

The fact that I can travel solo and never feel alone nor afraid to walk around at night by myself. I always feel secure.

Going the week after Thanksgiving, when it is chilly at home and getting towards the doors to go on the ME bus, knowing it is warmer than at home.

Listening to kids giggling on the ME bus, in excitement to get to the resort and out to the parks.

Watching parents/grandparents interacting with kids/grandkids in a such a special way.

That first glimpse of Main Street.

The smell from the Main Street Bakery as you walk in.

The fact you can see fireworks every night if you want to.

A place where your resort feels like your second home......

It’s just so much fun there, so much to do and see, something for everyone. We take other vacations occasionally but keep returning to Disney because none of the other vacations measure up to the good times at Disney.

We have been going for almost 20 years as adults, first as a couple and the last 5 years with a little one. We have changed the way we tour and there have been many changes in Disney over the years, which keeps things interesting.

I love the sights, sounds and smells. The parks are so beautiful and the CM are great. It relaxes me just to think about the parks and I enjoy planning the next trip. It’s a great way to spend time as a family.

My favorite times are early mornings in the MK. Being one of the first people in the park and walking around through AdventureLand.
The streets are still damp, it's quiet so you can hear the music playing well, it smells like popcorn, no ones crabby cause we all just got here. :)

The number one reason I love WDW is for the wonderful memories. The first time I went to MK was with my three sisters in my senior year of college. The second time was as a newlywed. The third time was with our 13 month old son. There have been at least twenty trips after that. And now our next trip is with our youngest daughter, her husband and the two grandchildren. Where did all those years go? :)

It is the memories of all those trips of the past which I enjoy the most. There is the time our youngest insisted on wearing a Goofy hat everywhere. There was my son's obsession with "It's a Small, Small World" when he was five years old. There was the time my teenaged kids talked me into going on the Rock and Roll Roller Coaster. They loved how I screamed throughout the whole ride. And there was our grandson's first birthday which we celebrated at WDW, complete with a Mickey cake.

We all love talking about our favorite memories. And we love making new ones.

On top of that, there is the fact that there is a lot to do at WDW. We always find something new to do, even though we have been there many times.

The deluxe resorts are really nice, too. I'm really looking forward to going to the WL for the first time.

My dh & I have been going to WDW since the year after they opened in '72 and brought our children there several times (now they are doing the same).

We loved it then for *our family*. Now, we love it for the *inner child* in us. Love the characters, parades, the restaurants, and just letting the *feeling* of being there relax us - no big planning - just going *with the flow* pixiedust:

I love it because some of my best memories as a kid are the many trips to Disney we took. And now I'm enjoying it with my kids and hoping that one day they will take their kids and feel the same way.

I love all the sites and sounds and smells and just being unplugged from the reality of work and bills and school and all the many things that keep us so busy during the year.

I love seeing my kids light up when they see their favorite character or my DD excited because we just rode ToT 6 times in a row and I'm ready to puke but she wants to go again. Or riding my favorite ride from my childhood (space mountain) with her and seeing her love it as well.

I love it all. I only wish my DH got it. He likes it because he enjoys seeing us happy, but he doesn't love it like DD and I do and hopefully DS will as he gets older.

No stresses exist at Disney. This is the "comfort place" where everything is done with a smile & life just seems magical.

I LOVE seeing Mickey & Friends, the parades, the shows, the attractions, the stage presentations, the Castle, the resorts - everything that is not available to me in everyday life.

And Wishes - I just LOVE Wishes. My daughter & I make a "together wish" each year about something that is important to us - health of a family member, issues at work, getting a house, etc. Every year we get an answer to our "together wish". It may not be what we hoped for - but it is OUR wish, and OUR answer. That's why it's special.

There is real magic everywhere at WDW. Just be open-minded & you will find it, too! :goodvibes

Why do I love Disney World? Hum...first let me ask my 3 youngest kids:

Declan..age 10..has been there twice for a total of 25 days: " I can't explain why I love it so much mom..it's DISNEY.. I love it"

Jadziah age 9..again been there twice for a total of 25 days: " I love Disney World because of Duffy and because ya know..it's Disney"

Taejan.. age 7.. twice..25 days.." It's just fun and I like it because of Barnstormer"

Now me.. age 37..I've been 4 times ( 99,2000,2011,2012) for a total 50 days. I was 24 before I made it to Disney. I wasn't lucky enough to ever experience it as a child. I brought my then 4.5 year old for 10 amazing days and then again for 14 amazing days ( at 6). The magic in the air is almost palatable. I went 11 years without going back. I arrived with 11 years of built up emotions..and too much reading about how much it had declined.. the magic was still there.. in fact there was more of it. My 3 youngest kids fell in love with Disney right on the spot. My husband became an instant convert after one walk through the Buzz Lightyear queue.

There is magic everywhere in life if you look for it..but at Disney.. it looks for you. I love my days in my Disney bubble... There is so much to see and do and explore and so many amazing people and experience's to be found. The look in my kids eyes when they arrive and for the entire time we are there is why I love Disney...my husband would tell you he love Disney for the food and the fact the 6 months BEFORE our trip I'm in what he now calls "Disney mood".. as long as the trip is being paid off I am happier than any other time except when we are actually on property.

I love Disney for its idealism. It's a business, but it's a business model built around the notion of trying to make people's day, and creating an environment where people make each other's days (what's better than getting some pixie dust? sprinking some yourself!). I love all the "believe in your dreams" stuff. I love that I could try any attraction for the first time and be absolutely certain my kids will be exposed to the ideas that are good for them.

I love it for its diversity. You can go repeatedly, you can stay for days, and continuously have new things to see and experience. I love how kid-friendly it is. I know, we could take our kids to great restaurants at home, but it probably won't be as relaxing. Disney makes it eaasy for me to let my kids try so many different cuisines with a high success rate -- there's a little stretch to try some new things at Jiko, at Marrakesh, etc. but also some proven kid-pleasers. One of my kids is definitely an "I'll order chicken fingers or mac and cheese whenever I can" kind of kid at home, but at Disney, he's right there with his more adventurous brothers, trying some Indian, getting up to dance, etc.

I love how some Imagineer somewhere, or a CM, someone has really thought of everything. It doesn't just look right, they make it sound right, they make it smell right. We stay at the WL, and I tell you what the walk from the bus stop might be just a few trees arway from a huge parking lot, but you don't feel that -- you just hear the crickets chirping and the lantern lights flickering a bit and you inhale...and you're just in the woods, not in a gigantic hotel.

~Great thread! Disney's customer service is the best. The CM's are SO awesome and a huge part of why we return every year!!! I love the Disney bubble -- the music, sights, sounds, rides, attractions, shows, decorations, flowers, the parades, electrical parade, and nighttime fireworks. I LOVE the attention to detail, everything is well themed, the Imagineers are awesome! I like all of the different themed resorts & Magical Express, too! We just have so much fun. This little paragraph just doesn't seem fair because there is so much more! :goodvibes

Went when I was younger 3-4 times. The theme, the music, smells (like on PoC). Takes you away from the grind back at home.

I always for some reason remember EPCOT the most, don't know why for sure, thats why that park is so special when I go back.

Never have had just bad experiences there, and if I did, I would go back a do it all over again. Can't be bad twice in a row.

My father's favorite place for vacation was Disney. My family has been going to Disney since I was 8. After he passed in 1994, I didn't go back until 2005.

Now myself and my boyfriend enjoy going and even though we don't have kids we enjoy experiencing Disney with other people's kids. We can either be in the crowds watching fireworks or be back at the resort having a quiet evening.
It is a nice blend of relaxation and fun for us.

Disney keeps the little girl alive with all the memories of being there with my daddy....:littleangel:

You said that so beautifully...I love it! It is so true, magic is just around the corner at WDW. I love how when watching the parades, it seems as though the performers are performing just for you and your children, and always make eye contact and high five the children. That makes it so special for them, and us too!

Thank you..and exactly.. It brings tears to my eyes to even think about it :)

I'm so excited this has made it to three pages! I've loved reading everyone's posts, and they've all made me feel :goodvibes:, which was just what I was hoping this would do!

As for me, WDW is a combo of so many things, a ton of which some PPs have talked about in really touching ways. I guess what it boils down to really is the memories and the people and how Disney is the backdrop of all of that. It's the consistent piece threading so many wonderful memories together. My grandparents started taking my mom and my aunts since Easter of '72 and very quickly, my great aunts started bringing their families along too until eventually it was a whole clan camping out at ft wilderness at the same time every year. This kept going until I was about five, at which point different cousins had jobs they couldn't get off for, college with different vacation time, etc. that prevented us from all being together and the tradition ended after a good 20-25 year run. We will always have that, though. And when different combinations of us go back, it's like it always was, which is really my favorite thing about the air of disney. And since I am the oldest of my generation of cousins and the only to experience the family camping, i can help recreate this all for them in the way that i knew it with grandparents, aunts, uncles, first-cousins-once-removed, etc. Not just recreate that special family magic, but expand on it in truly magical ways. Family has been added, beit through spouses or children, and they are all now part of the legacy of Disney, and it's that melding of memories and traditions from the past, fresh memories from recent years, and the memories yet to be made--all with Disney World standing quietly behind letting it happen--that makes me so happy that WDW exists.

It started as a joke.....

It was actually the first vacation that my DH (boyfriend at the time) took together. We didn't know anything about Disney or the area, except that it was a week after 9/11 and it was slow, empty, and almost eerie. But we had the parks to ourselves and really got to see things without being rushed. He had been when he was a child and I had never been. And then he told me that the look on my face was what he always wanted me to have for the rest of my life- a look of absolute amazement and joy. And I was 29 and falling back in love.

Here I am, at 40, planning yet another trip to see the mouse, of course taking along the DS that we now have, along with his older siblings. You see, my DH was my high school love and then he was gone. And now, I'm married to him and it was that first trip, over 11 years ago, that cemented a bond that we had started more than 12 years before that.

So, for me, it is about tradition and always being able to get some of that magic that I found that first vacation with the man of my dreams in a place for dreams. Now, I get to share it with my children and hopefully soon (not too soon), my grandchildren.

So, I guess just because...
