I'm much more a WDW kind of girl, having been born in Florida and raised in the southeast. Engaged at WDW, married at WDW, DVC owners, etc.
That said, any chance I get to visit DLR I do! I've been in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, and will spend a couple days there in 2009 as well. I guess the difference is that Disneyland usually ends up being a couple tacked onto California trips that are really for another reason... either visiting family or going to a conference. I guess there isn't enough to see at DLR to justify the cost and travel time to California for us without doing other things, even if it's purely a leisure trip. WDW, on the other hand, is more of a destination in and of itself to me.
But DLR has tons of wonderful things you don't get at WDW. I love visiting the original park, the longer version of PoTC, those rides that are unique, etc.
If you want a purely Disney vacation, I'd pick WDW. But if you want a great Disney experience as part of a more diverse vacation, DLR is a great option.
