Why do you go to Disneyland instead of WDW

I'm much more a WDW kind of girl, having been born in Florida and raised in the southeast. Engaged at WDW, married at WDW, DVC owners, etc.

That said, any chance I get to visit DLR I do! I've been in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, and will spend a couple days there in 2009 as well. I guess the difference is that Disneyland usually ends up being a couple tacked onto California trips that are really for another reason... either visiting family or going to a conference. I guess there isn't enough to see at DLR to justify the cost and travel time to California for us without doing other things, even if it's purely a leisure trip. WDW, on the other hand, is more of a destination in and of itself to me.

But DLR has tons of wonderful things you don't get at WDW. I love visiting the original park, the longer version of PoTC, those rides that are unique, etc.

If you want a purely Disney vacation, I'd pick WDW. But if you want a great Disney experience as part of a more diverse vacation, DLR is a great option.

what a great question.

Even though I live much closer to WDW, being on the East Coast, I rather go to DL because of the memories. I'm a CA girl at heart & I grew up with DL. I know the park like its the back of my hand. I can never get bored!

I would love to go to WDW, but I always feel like if I go, I'm cheating on DL =P

Kaycee! I never even *think* you live that far away! I just *think* you live in San Jo with your cousin! And that you're a CA girl!!! Psh, Virginia, who!!? :confused3

I WISH. Thats why we never do videos together (except for our most recent ones). It used to be so hard for us to talk before and show eachother stuff. Now we both have macbooks so we ichat and show eachother everything ! We've been talking for years that once she's done with school over there most likely she'll move in with me and Shyboy72 because it probably will happen ;)

After 5 trips to WDW, we made it to DLR this past month and loved it. I love that with a 4 year old it is so manageable; I loved POTC, Space Mtn, Haunted Mansion xmas. I love not having to plan restaurants 6 months in advance. I love the weather. I loved California Screaming. My daughter loved the Paradise Pier area, with rides that are bashed as off the shelf, bit we thought were whimsical nonetheless..

I will go back to WDW (3 hour vs 5 1/2 hour flight), but we also plan on going back to DLR soon as a PP said, as a 3-day add-on to another trip...

JMHO!

Because it's a 2 hour drive as opposed to a long expensive flight!

I did my first trip to WDW in January this year- I would give anything to go back! Even though I average about once every 6 weeks a mini trip to DLR- I LOVED WDW!!!!

It depends on what kind of vacation we want. If we want a get away, we go to WDW and get completely immersed in Disney. If we want a quick trip or an easy trip (no busses to hassle with, walk everywhere) we go to DL. We're going to DL this Christmas with DD because we didn't want to deal with stroller and busses in WDW and all the waiting for busses. We like the idea of walking distance with a little one.

You know what's funny...At DLR in the winter, I meet so many people from NZ and Australia and when I was at WDW I met lots of people from England. So it is definately geographical. But please don't compare the two resorts. They should be thought of as completely different cuz even the similar things aren't alike even the things you would think are exactly the same are different. Even the shows.
