My husband is about to have me committed over mystery smells that he nor the children can detect. It's only ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lmao:

Ugghhhh!!!! I do have a vanilla cupcake Yankee Candle burning--that's helping.

I don't why -- I think it's something to do with hormones. All I know is that if I never smell another egg frying, or bread heating up in the microwave, (my husband was addicted to Hot Pockets during my pregnancy), it will be fine with me.

Those were the two smells that always got me!

Good luck with your pregnancy!

I have a heightened sense of smell to begin with, but when I was pregnant it was incredible. It really drove me crazy. My husband tells me I could smell a flea fart.:lmao:

I used to spray a mens cloth handkerchief with a favorite perfume and walk around smelling that when it was really bad and my nostrils were being offended.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. :)

Oh my...I remember this, although my DS is 27yo...ugh...everything smelled nasty to me...it was awful. DH and I decided (very early in my pregnancy) to go to this lovely Italian restaurant for dinner (a restaurant we frequented often)...walked in and immediately turned to DH and told him we HAD to leave...I thought I was going to be sick to my stomach it smelled so bad (to me). A few days later I am at work. Walked into the lunch room and a group of co-workers had ordered pizza's...oh my...I went running out of the room, I could not stand the smell AND I LOVE PIZZA and all Italian food. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

About my 4th month along, I remember waking up one day and having this unbelievable craving for a PIZZA!!!
Yup, for me the smell thingy only lasted my first three months!!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations, OP and good luck with the pregnancy!!!! :)

I think it's a protective thing, like you will smell something dangerous/bad before it harms you/the fetus. But I do know what you mean, that heightened sense of smell can drive you crazy and hinder your enjoyment of restaurants!

We went on a Carnival cruise when I was 2-3 months pregnant and every time I walked into the dining room it smelled like rotten tuna to me. DH didn't smell it at all. I didn't eat much on that cruise.

sigh... I wish I knew! Man is my nose ever sensitive now! There is a dead skunk over 2 blocks away, but I swear that I can smell him from our house! When we drove by it yesterday I immediately plugged my nose and DH didn't smell it at all! :lmao: And I swear when I was driving yesterday I could smell mashed potatoes. Could have been that I was just really hungry....

Hilarious! Just the word HOT POCKETS now can make me feel squeamish.

I would almost puke when DH was cooking them.:lmao:

OK, here is a theory...

What causes it: As with so many pregnancy weirdnesses, when it comes to your heightened sense of smell you can blame those hormones again. In this case, it's estrogen that can make every little scent that wafts your way feel like an all-out assault on your nostrils.

Onions...I could smell them if they were in anything. Banned them from the house. If we ate out, they were banned from the table. The whole nine months with both kids and for the duration of a pregnancy that didn't go the distance.

Smoking-true story
When I was pregnant with DS4, we were stopped at a light and I was talking to DH and DD. Windows were up and air was on in the car. I cut DH off mid sentence, and said "Do you smell that?" His reply is smell what and DD claims to smell nothing. "You people CAN NOT smell that? Some one is smoking!"

DH & DD continue to stare at me like I'm a crazy person. Light turns green, traffic starts to move...two cars ahead and a lane over, woman with her windows down and her cigarette hanging out the window. DH just shook his head. Picked up the scent through the car vents. (that line makes me sound like a hound dog )

For me it was coffee. I don't even drink the stuff, but without looking at the menu I could tell you what flavor the coffee shop in our building was brewing each day.
