Why do they put children's Christmas specials on at 8:30 on a school night?!

The title says it all. My DDs want to stay up and watch the new Disney Christmas special but it's not on until 8:30! They have to get up at 6 tomorrow morning. I'm sending them to bed now!

Aaarrrgghh!

I always hated that when we lived in Ohio (EST)...Luckily we're now in CST so its only 7:30 here..watching it now! Can you DVR it?

Can you record it for her? I agree that the ones during the week are on too late.. By that time the really little ones are already in bed and the others are taking their baths or whatever..:(

Bah humbug! :headache:

My boys don't start getting ready for bed until 9:00, but they can't watch anything until they're done with their homework. I'm trying to get them to do it now so they can watch the shows later. If not, we'll put it on the DVR for tomorrow or the weekend.

Okay, I have to admit it... We're probably one of the few families in America that don't have a DVR!

I told DDs that since it's a new show it should be on again. I hope so!

A Charlie Brown Christmas was on at 8PM. Lots of folks have very fond memories of that special.

Lanny And Wayne The Christmas Elves In Prep & Landing will be rebroadcast on the 16th at 8PM ET.

I don't have one either - I have at least 4 VCR's.. DD and her DH have a DVR here though..

So - you're not alone..;)

We don't have a DVR either. :)

But we're also in CST, so it was on at 7:30 here.

our son and daughter are 40 and 38 (almost) and years ago they had an 8 o clock bedtime on a school night........of course they wanted to watch all the specials starting off with halloween ones with charlie brown and then all the thanksgiving ones and then onto Christmas.......so we bought a VCR ....a big ark of a thing and that was many years ago.......so they have been doing it forever.....this is the time they have always allotted for specials....

Gosh, am I the only parent who would just let them stay up and watch it?

that's what my mom always let us do, it was a big deal and a special treat. We'd do baths and jammies and then be all ready for bed before it came on.

It's a special show then we just let them stay up as long as they aren't to hard to get up in the morning

Most things that are on TV are available shortly after on the Internet. Have you checked clicker to see if the special is there? You might have to wait until tomorrow as many shows are delayed.

Of course there are always other ways of getting the shows online, but those are of questionable legality...aaargh. :goodvibes

It was on at 6:30 here, and I was thinking that was too early, since it's most people's dinnertime! I would have recorded it probably (and we don't have the DVR either unfortunately...I had one a few years ago and I miss it a lot!)

Totally agree OP. The Grinch was on from 8:30 to 10:00pm last night. Someone is definitely not colouring with a full box of crayons IMO:rolleyes1

I might even let them eat ice cream while they watch it!

I was telling my dd the other day how the holiday specials like Charlie Brown, Rudolph, etc. used to be special events because we could only see them once a year, not like now when you can watch the Rudolph dvd in August. We really looked forward to them.

Maybe they're not really putting the specials on for the kids... maybe they're putting them on for the adults so we can remember the fun we had as kids watching them? :confused3 Especially since I only watch them once a year when they come on TV.

Well, I think we need to keep in mind that prime time begins at 8PM ET. If they're ever going to present any programming for children, then they're going to do it in that first hour, 8PM-9PM ET.
