Tried to get price quote for AirTran from CRO AGAIN today. For some reason the system will not let them book a seat for a child under 1. They would have to make him 2 in the system for all of my reservations to do it.

I just find it rediculous that they can't book him as his age. Needless to say I am not buying tickets from them. Plus the flight times were all screwy.

I give up!

I'm not sure why the age would make a difference to you. There system is probably set up for kids under 2 who are lap babies. They just imput to and it is understood.

If the times don't work I'd not do it as well...but the age thing wouldn't matter to me at all..

My daughter wasn't 2 last year and we booked her on Airtran as a 2 year old. I think it has become more often people are buying seats for under 1, but since a seat isn't required they can sit on a lap that's the reason for the 2, under 1 doesn't require a seat.

I've never flown AirTran, as they don't service my airport, but what is more likely is that they offer a special price for a separate seat for children under 2, but that that price is not available through online booking. You probably have to call their 800 number to get it. Usually that is what is going on if you want to enter a separate ticket for a passenger that age, and it won't let you.

Be aware that sometimes these "special infant fares" may be higher than the best adult sale fare available on the same flight. If so, just pay the adult fare, but then call and tell them that there is a baby on that itinerary, so that you don't get illegal seat assignments for a child. (If you are using a carseat, say so; there are restrictions about where it can be placed.)

I do not understand your complaint. What difference does it make if the airline books him as a 2 year old if you are buying a seat?

:confused3
