Why do they do that?

Although you do not want to park near other cars, your car does not share your feelings. Your car is lonely and it sends out low-frequency calls below human hearing threshold, saying, "Come on over, friends!" Other cars hear this and, if their driver is distracted and not paying attention, they take control and drive over to your lonely car.

:rotfl:

I used to have a car that was not only lonely, but was also a masochist, because it kept encouraging other cars to hit it!

I don't park crooked.

I wouldn't park next to someone that did.

They already show a lack of respect for others. Some people are looney tunes and I wouldn't want to flip their switch.

The theory that they're just trying to piss you off:

It's true for at least my friend's little brother. When he was 16, he'd find some car parked all the way out there and park soooooo close to it. Sometimes, he'd park so close that he'd have to get out the passenger side door. Idk why he did it, but I think it's a little funny.

L_L, this isn't directed toward you, but I don't get it. Why on earth would anybody get a kick out that?

I park away from other cars when I can to try to avoid dings. I was sitting in our truck one day, and the door of the truck next to us hit our truck so hard that it actually rocked the truck (and this is a F-250 3/4 ton 4WD truck - fairly large). Then the guy tried to say that he didn't hit my truck.

If I'm willing to walk, I see no reason not to park further out (and I do park correctly). There's nothing wrong with wanting to take care of your belongings as best you can. I would have to wonder about someone who took a lot of pleasure out of trying to purposely be obnoxious.

Usually it is some piece of crappola that is parked by you. I firmly believe they do this to piss you off and 9 times out of 10, they ding your car on purpose.

I agree. I can understand the temptation to park next to someone who is being a jerk and taking up multiple places, but I don't understand the people who enjoy parking right next to a car that is parked normally, just far from other cars. I understand being easily amused, but it's kind of pathetic that people enjoy something like that. All I can figure is, maybe they don't have nice things of their own so they don't understand the desire to keep a nice car dent and scratch free.

Yes. And going out of their way to do it! The driver of a parked car some distance away went out of his/her way to park where they chose. So what is the point of the person parking next to a car parked alone far away? They both can do it? Odd.

I don't understand being obnoxious just for the sake of being obnoxious.

We always park far away from the store because I hate the congestion at the front of the parking lot and it takes forever to get out if you park near the front. It's also good for you to walk.

I just noticed your signature. Please thank your "knight in shining armor" for his service to his country and to us!

I aim for end spots just so I cut down on the likelihood of getting door dings. I really don't care so much about my car not being perfect but up here the door dings end up rusting because of all the salt in the winter.

I also don't mind walking a little and would rather park a little further away than sit in my car for ten minutes waiting for a parking spot. I've seen people pass up spots that are no more than twenty feet further away to sit there and wait for someone to load their car, put the cart back, get in, get situated, and pull out. That is just lazy, walk a little.

I think the cars that park crooked or in two spots are asking for a keying by someone because you are broadcasting that you care way too much about a piece of machinery that merely gets you from point A to point B.

Actually I think it might be that the second person to park out there is just as anal about their car and figures if they have to park next to someone they should park next to the person that they know will be extra careful not to ding their car...but it is probably more likely that they know it will bug them and they want to get a tread started on the DIS.

About 7-8 years ago, I was leaving the grocery store parking lot. There was a car parked further out, but the lot had filled up a bit sonow the car was only 2 spaces out from the majority of the cars. Well, out of nowhere, a car comes up the next aisle, and tries to cut across the empty spaces-- or so he thought. The guy crashed at full speed into the car, I guess he didn't anticipate someone being parked there. Oops! It was pretty bad too, he crumpled half of the trunk.

OP, I totally agree.

Years ago when I bought a car, 2 cars ago, I parked way out at TRU. It was a long parking lot so way out was far. When I came back a jerk was parked right next to me very close. I was not happy. My key met that cars paint (no flames).

Then with my next car. I was at Target & the idiot female (I am female so I can say that) parked so close to me that I have no clue how she got out of the car so I waited-my kids ate their lunch in the car. She was barely able to squeeze in & I had a few choice words with her on parking.

Fast forward to December 2010. We bought a new car...a van (yeah I know a van, after 2 SUV's..eek). I looked at the dealer who was doing our paperwork & when he handed me the keys I said "there is no key? How am I going to key someone?" He smiled & showed me to flick the switch on the fob (the key) & out comes an actual key. I haven't had to use it yet.

Why is it not OK for someone to park next to your new car, but it is OK for you to vandalize that other person's car? Can you explain the reasoning?

This is the other reason why people park so far out in the lot. They want to stay away from people like this who take it upon themselves to punish someone who may have accidentally parked too close to their precious vehicle by doing something illegal to it. :sad2:

I have always wondered why people do park by someone that parks way out. To change the subjet alittle. I have always wondered why a movie theater can be completely empty and people come set right next to you or right in front or behind you.

A similar pet peeve of mine is when I go into a big public restroom with tons of empty stalls. Whenever possible, I pick a stall away from other people in an attempt to have a little more privacy and to not invade anyone else's. But there are some people who out of all those empty stalls (sometimes even a completely empty restroom except for me) will choose a stall right next to mine :confused3.

In a fairly crowded parking lot I do sometimes park next to newer cars for the reason that a previous poster mentioned. I think those people are more likely to be careful with their car. At least I believe that about the majority of them who don't go around keying people :sad2:.

OMG, my DH is like this (parks the furthest he can from the store entrance and then sometimes will park "crooked" taking up two parking spaces)

DRIVES ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every single time I ask him, "what are you doing?" He says, "I don't need some ******* hitting my truck"

My thoughts are though....if you park like that (like an idiot) than I think it's like asking to get hit. I mean you're sending out this vibe that your truck is better than everyone elses, so if you park like this...everyone will take notice and then make sure they back off. I personally, think just the opposite....when I see a vehicle parked like that, I think to myself...."what a *******, who do they think they are, they're no better than anyone else!!!" I mean, it's not that I would purposely hit/nick/bang up against a car parked like this but I just don't like the fact that people act this way.

Sorry for rambling....it's just a big pet peeve of mine. But maybe in your case, if you're the one that was parked in the middle of nowhere, maybe the two other cars had the same idea as you did???? Maybe they thought..."hey, if he's parked out in the middle of nowhere, I should park next to him and then my car will be safe from any damage"????

Hopefully, nothing happened to your car though...

LOLOL I think like you... See now those who park crooked to take up 2 spaces are destined to end up with a cart or scratch in their door.
:rolleyes1

I totally agree with these. I do park far out, I park straight, and I only take 1 parking space. I do this because I do not want door dings, and because I have a desk job and I like to get the few extra steps. I do not get why this should bother anyone, or be anyones business? If I took up multiple spots, I would get it, that bothers me also.

I have also had someone hit my car so hard with their door, while I was in my car, that it rocked the car. I got out to look and they kinda shrugged and pulled away.

I am assuming that this is attempt at satire. At least, I sure hope so.

I would think in the case of who you quoted, because the kid was 16? :cool2:

I disagree. I don't think that 16 year olds are normally so focused on spiteful behavior towards strangers. It seems very odd to me.
