I agree with jrydberg as well.

You can dislike President Bush or Senator Kerry all you like; but the name-calling doesn't add a thing to any discussion. Most of the time, we already "get" that you (in general; not directed to a particular person here) don't like a certain candidate.

ITA wih jrydberg. Unfortunately, "shrub" is much milder than some of the names I've heard for the Clintons and Kerry.

In fact, there was an article in the Post yesterday about a woman conservative radio host and she mentioned the nicknames she calls Kerry and Edwards, because she refuses to call them by name.


And we wonder why we encounter rudeness in our kids? Look at the 'adults' around us.....

I use it ("shrub") all the time, and yes, it is absolutely a sign of disrespect. However, since being subjected to 8 years of "slick willy", among other things, I find it HIGHLY amusing that the people on the right (and some on this very thread) are now complaining about it.

Is it juvenile ? Probably. But then so are statements like "bring 'em on" and "wanted, dead or alive"

Like I said earlier I don't condone name calling but it seems to me that many people (not singling anyone out) have no issue with using derogatory names when referring to a democratic candidate or former President but are all over anyone who does likewise for a republican. Why is that?

To say that there is one side always calls the other side names is simply ridicules. There are some on both sides that do it and only object when the name calling goes against their candidate. I find that those with the highest character refrain from such immature actions. Therefore I give little thought to the statements made by those that name call. To me, they are just silly and don't deserve much attention.

I don't always like the president that is in office, but I ALWAYS respect the office.
