I've seen it several times now.

Take this sentence for example:

I've been PM-*** you.

Why does the "i n g" get filtered out?

Is i n g the new cuss word? ;)

I asked that a few weeks ago and never got an answer as to why it gets filtered out. I've seen bad words not get filtered, but *** words do.

I N G is the name of an online bank which awards a $10 referral fee for new members. Many people were using the boards to solicit referrals, so the decision was made to filter out the letters. :)

Some people are soliciting something called I N G - something. That is probably why.

I don't think that's the case, well for advertising yes, but I think it's more for filtering out expletives ending with those letters, that way it's bound to catch them.

The I N G thing is from the I N G bank thread of a January/February. What was a harmless thread about this bank (fantastic bank btw, been an account holder for a while), on the budget board, turned into a beg a thon for referalls.

The original thread which was very informative, turned outright nasty. Yes it was a great deal, a bonus of $25 for opening an account, and a $10 bonus for the "referrer"... but too many people would use the thread for "I have XXX amount of referrals left", versus the questions of "How do I transfer Money?" or "How does this work?"

I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for asking the question and thanks to those who supplied the answer. :)

If the special startup offer is over and the referral frenzy along with it, maybe they will give us back our ***'s, as it won't be abused now. Maybe?

The offer isn't a "start up" offer, its a conitnous offer. Since any customer has the capabilities to send referalls, it could still be a problematic situation.

if you want to use I N G, you can use that verb ending with no spaces, like singing or dancing. Pming works!
