Why do some people hate the Sorcerer's Hat at Hollywood Studios?

I really do like the hat, but I would like to see it moved to somewhere else, I'm not really sure where the best place for it would be, it would be kinda cool if it was around the entrance of Fantasmic, but I think then it would block the view of TOT, maybe they could move it to the front entrance and you can just walk under it to get into the park.

i like hat but i believe it shoul be bigger, has an attraction insie like other icons an be next to fantasmic.

Truly, if you look at it on a map or even while in the park you notice the only thing it does is disrupt the view of the Chinese theater. It doesn't relate to the park very much and it was placed in the wrong position.

I don't think the hat is big enough or special enough to be a park icon. For example, look at the Tree of Life, with all of its handcrafted artwork and incredible level of detail. All the hat "is" is a shop, and not a very good shop at that. It's just a kiosk tarted up a little bit.

It's a cute hat, and I agree with others who say to put it outside of the park gates. It definitely disrupts the great appeal of this wonderful area of the park, and does not fit with the overall theme. It might be cute somewhere else, but in its current location it is just gaudy.

This doesn't have anything to do with disliking change. I've loved countless changes over the years. This one is a cheap downgrade rather than an improvement.

What does this have to do with theme parking planing?

The forum is "Attractions and Strategies" not "Attraction Strategies." It's for discussing attractions AND for discussing strategies. This topic is discussing an attraction. What's the problem?

Had you ever been to MGM (that's what "Hollywood Studios" will always be to me) before they added the hat? I'm not meaning to sound like a smart@ss- that's a serious question. The Chinese Theatre wasn't the original icon of MGM; the Earful Tower was, and it was more fitting with the studio atmosphere. Those of us who don't like it think it's unnecessary and ruins the original view of the street.
Yes I have been there prior to the name change and before adding the Sorcerer's Hat, however like I said before I liked it when it was added on and don't have a problem with it.

Agreed, the topic is an attaction because that hat is blocking The Great Movie Ride

I guess I have never really heard why it ended in front of the Theater. There must be a reason because there were many other places that the hat could have gone. Animation Plaza for one.

I do think that it does destroy the view that once was in the park. It was pleasant and appropriate. Now with that BBH sitting there everything seems out of balance and to be a pin station just adds insult to injury.

To those that never saw the park before the "hat", I'm sure it all looks natural to you. Those that saw it before just look at it with bewilderment. Earful tower was our icon for the park and it was fine. Not a big deal either way. I just think there is more to the story then just poor judgement about where it is located.

Decoration does not equal theming.
BTW, these are same reasons why I object to the "theming" of the All-Stars and Pop. I know people swear they get that "Disney feel" when they stay there, but decoration does not equal theming.

Please educate us on what exactly this means. I get the "Santa" hat on Earful tower is a decoration, it's temporary. BUT I don't get what your saying about POP or the All Stars??? Having been to Grand Floridian, Contemporary etc etc...they are just hotels to me...like the Paris or Mirage in Vegas..just a hotel with a small touch of Disney. The All Stars and POP are MORE "Disney In your face"..true, but to me, or I should say US, they are MORE Disney than the others..please explain so I can better unbderstand your POV, TIA.

I love the hat, but if they moved it to the front of the park or by the Animation area -that would be find with me. As a park icon it obviously isn't as large as the castle/ball/tree and it does look like it was added as an afterthought instead of part of the plan. I can't imagine how hard it has to be refresh and update the parks within the existing space.

But, I also loved the controversal wand on the Epcot ball that others disliked so much!

A better question would be, "Does the Theme Park board REALLY need two BAH-related threads on the front page?"
Take a minute to read the other thread, and you will find your answer.

I was going to say the same thing, but I got hassled one time for (in the nicest possible way) suggesting to someone that they read the first two pages of threads before posting to make sure they were not duplicating. We did this very same thing yesterday. Ironically, that thread had (at the time) over 90% of the people in favor of the sorcerer's hat in front of GCT.

I like the hat, but haven't seen the view with the Chinese Theater before that, so I have no reference to go by.

IMO, the hat symbolizes the feeling I get when thinking about Disney films much more than the Chinese Theater.

People can't agree on much it seems.

Many people want DHS to be more 'Disney'-fied. So they put the hat there.

Many other people then complain that it doesn't look 'hollywood'-y enough.

It's a lose lose situation. Just walk past the hat. I went to both pre-hat and post hat parks, and don't really notice a difference, though I was young at the time.

I think it is a shame when we focus on a little imperfection and miss the things behind it. You don't focus on a physical blemish with a date, for example. You look past that and see what is underneath. Much the same with this, look (and walk) past it.

I like the hat but then I have never been when the hat was not there. I do agree that moving it could give more atmosphere to the area. An attraction would also be a plus.

I loved the view of the chinese theater as you walk up the main street it was like classic Hollywood. The hat blocks the view now and it's just out of place with the theming of the area there. It would be better suited in another location. I loved the Earfull tower and to me that always symbolized Disney/MGM Studios (which I can't help but still call it MGM). I was disappointed on our last visit to WDW and thought it was gone but we found it on the backlot tour. I thought the hat was a promotional temporary thing, but alas it's not. They should move it to where the Philharmagic is, it would be a perfect fit with that attraction.

I would incorporate the hat into the entrance to Animation Plaza and that would result in two great picture spots at DHS. Just my opinion, of course.

It is called freedom of speech: a great right that Americans enjoy. No one forced you to open this thread. I always enjoy the OP's thread and by seeing how many posts they have, they have great knowledge of everything disney;)
