Why do some people hate cats so much?

I really, really dislike cats. I've already informed my husband that no matter how much our future children beg and plead for a cat that it's absolutely forbidden! They are just so unattached to me. I greatly prefer dogs.

When we were dating DH tried to tell me that he hated cats. I then said "buh-bye" but strangely enough he came around. Over the years he's had his own cats and he's a sloppy mess when a cat comes up to him. I knew that I had to marry an animal lover.

I love cats, and I can understand why some people might not especially care for cats, but there are alot of people that just hate them.

Can a cat hater please chime in? No flames - I just want to know what you hate about them. They're just so lovable and entertaining to me and I need an education.

I hate cats. They are pure evil. OK, maybe not pure evil, but still...
What I really don't like about cats is that they never seem "honest", there is always something ... I don't know... I especially don't know the right English word Hypocrite? Two-faced? Vicious?
I don't feel a cat can be trusted...

I certainly don't *hate* cats, but I really, really don't like them at all. I can't stand walking into a house and smelling cat, cat pee and kitty litter. I don't like how moody they can be and I've seen some vicious scratches from them. I can't stand how they get up on all of the furniture, countertops, cars, etc. I can't stand having cat hair all over the place.

took the words right out of my mouth but I feel the same way about BOTH cats and dogs. I had cats and dogs while I was growing up and I came to dislike both for many of the same reasons. Whatever floats your boat I say. I don't wish harm on pets, just don't throw your cat on me when I walk in to show me how cute he is and your dog humping my leg isn't hilarious to me. My friend's cat crawls up people's legs all the way to their shoulders while they are standing. THAT is not cute to me at all.

I love my cats and no my house does not stink. I have two cats and they are pretty well behaved for the most part. They are more interested in chasing each other around the house then jumping on the counters etc they are also very affectionate toward me. I wouldn't trade them in for anything!

I've always trained our cats to stay off of counter tops and tables and I've yet to catch any of them on these places nor have I seen hair or paw prints. I only allow them on places where dogs and people can sit.

Personally, I can't imagine actually hating any living creature. I even tolerate rodents when I have to, the nasty little things.

I'm with you 100%.......heck I even tossed out 2 cans of cat food to a coyote! Anyways it is all in ones perspective, if you keep the litter boxes cleaned there will be no smell, on the other hand I hate stepping in dog poo in peoples yards or elsewhere (parks etc) People make their own excuses for the reasons they do not like cats or dogs or even kids.........how can you hate something that you really don't take the time to know? Cats can be trained to stay off the counters just as dogs can be trained to stay off the furniture, and quite frankly some animals are better behaved and trained than some peoples kids. So it irks me when people say they HATE cats, just say you perfer not having a cat or a dog etc. Hate is a strong word. For the record I have 7 cats, they get a bath once a month, they have 3 litter boxes which are on a back patio that is open to the air, they stay off the counters in the kitchen and I also have tile floors and I dare anyone to tell me my house stinks! Not as bad as some peoples homes who have diapers.........So if you don't like cats or for that matter dogs or birds don't bother to visit me, since these animals are my family and they love me too. People need to be a little more tolerant to all of Gods living creatures human or animal.

Okay, got some "cat people" gathered here. Tell me this...do you NEVER wash a cat with soap and water? I understand they they wash themselves, but YUCK! Their mouths take in all that foul smelling fishy food, then they turn around and "wash" themselves with that foul smelling mouth?!!! No, no, no, no no.

It sounds icky, but cat saliva is thought to have a detergent and deodorizing quality to it, which is why cats rarely smell even if they are never given baths by their owners.

Bathing cats isn't really an easy thing.

We keep ours (and the litter boxes) in the garage primarily. Some are kep outside in a big yard. The garage kitties come in some but not too much. The garage is pretty big with lots of things to crawl on so they like it. They also have a window in the garage to look out. I don't think they mind. They tend to lay around in the same spot all day anyway. They would either be laying around on the couch or in a box in the garage either way, I don't think they mind.

I like cats and all ok, but they do seem to be kinda lazy if you want to analyze the situation. Dogs are always so active, maybe too active depending on the breed, always barking, chasing cars, other animals etc. My outdoor cats are usually just laying somewhere watching the dogs bark and run around. They kinda look at them like they're their entertainment or something. Its kinda funny to watch.

If my dogs roam the neighborhood they can be picked up - taken to the pound and put down. At best, I'll be cited for allowing them to run free. But there is no such attempt to keep cats at their homes. Until cat owners make some effort to keep their pets away from their neighbors' homes the way dog owners must, then my prejudice will be against cat owners (if not the cats themselves).
