Why do "some" older people think they can do anything they want?

Papadeuce, maybe if you kick back and really think about it, you'll realize that there are rude people in all age groups. We tend to overlook those people who aren't rude and the rude people just stand out. I suspect that way more older people are polite and quiet but you just don't notice them. Know what I mean?

Yeah, I know that. I get irritated easily. But I hope I never treat people rudely before I have been treated rudely.

On the PLUS side, I have also told many a good story about nice things people have done. Like that time I posted how proud I was of that young guy who raced down my street at about 50 MPH. If you remember, I screamed the "F Bomb" at him in front of my kids. I was so embarrassed. But then he came back to my home like 15 minutes later and apologized and explained. I shoook his hand and would have hugged him if I had actually known him.

I'm sure MOST older folks are polite. The ones who get to me are the ones who seem to feel like their advanced age gives them the right to do whatever they want, to whomever they want. But that would also be true of any aged person. However "I" think it happens more with older folks, at least in my experience.

To the poster above: No, I don't feel the need to tell these stories to seem cool. I tell them as a release for my frustration. Though I do admit to a certain "satisfaction", at being able to tell people that I don't appreciate their innapropraite actions.

Would you be telling us this story if the 'rude' person was say a person of your age? Some people are rude some people are not. Get over it.

I think you need to chill dude.
You'll be the one seeing the doctor soon with all your pent up anger.

What's with all of this "well, she's old so it's okay".

I don't think so.

If your story had been about a "15 yr old boy" who came in, ignored what you said and went to change the channel - I am sure that more people would be jumping in to say - how rude! Where were his parents! Didn't anyone teach that child any manners!

Rudeness at any age is not appropriate.

I say, good for you standing up for yourself - too many people get away with bad behaviour because no one calls them on it.

I work with seniors all day - they are some of the nicest, most polite people you can deal with - on the flip side they can also be the meanest, nastiest ingrates ever.

Rudeness isn't an age - it's a state of mind (or lack thereof).

I'm not sure I even see her behaviour as a function of age. I'll bet she might have done the same thing at 30.

Her age had nothing to do with it. She is rude at 70 because she was rude at 30.

...... see apparently great minds and all..... ;)

Very good points. I think she was rude, Papa Deuce, and I wouldn't have allowed her to change the channel until the show was over, either.

I respect my elders, but that doesn't mean they get a license to run all over people because they want something.
