Why do some divorced women never date again?

WOW! I sure am getting alot of responses on this thread. They are not what I expected. I have always imagined that if I got a divorce, I would naturally end up with someone else within a few years, but maybe not. .

When you get a taste of it and see how nice it actually is you might stay single LOL.

If DH goes I can't imagine letting anyone see me naked again.

I didn't think I'd ever date again after my divorce. Then DH asked me out and I changed my mind. :teeth: I'd known him for a few years--we were work acquaintences. He worked in a totally different area so I'd only seen him occasionally. I lucked out by getting the perfect guy for me on my first date.

Now my mom--when my dad passed away a few years ago, she's had numerous invites from men. She makes it quite clear she's only interested in being friends. She told me she's been married twice (to my dad for 40 years) and she thought she'd had her fair share. :teeth: She also told me since she's in her 70's, she's afraid she'd end up having to be a caretaker for any man she married. And while she didn't mind doing it for Dad, she didn't want to do it for anyone else.

My MIL has been divorced from my FIL for 25 years now. She's never been on a single date in all that time. She doesn't think it's really necessary. She has no interest in getting married again and so she doesn't bother dating. Personally, I think she needs to sell the split level house, get a retirement apartment and travel the world with a nice retired man who has as much money and common sense as she does. I think she'd have a lovely time of it. I hear FIL wasn't peach of guy as a husband so maybe she's totally turned off to the idea because of it. :confused3 I have too much manners to ask if she's had any "friends with benefits" in all this time but I'm curious!

I don't know, but I wish my mother would. She hasn't dated anyone for over 12 years and been divorced for over 17 years. Sometimes I feel for her being all alone in her big house that we all use to live in. I've asked her why she hasn't dated and Mom simply says she hasn't found anyone she is interested in. She works, keeps busy, and travels a lot. My mom says she is very happy with her just her animals. (Dogs, cats and small farm animals) She says they listen and don't talk back

She sounds like she is doing fine. Why do you wish she would date?

I once heard a saying, "Any woman looking for a husband has obviously never met mine". :teeth:

If I hadn't tried so long and hard to save my marriage, I actually might be willling to give it another go. The levels of verbal & emotional abuse I was eventually subjected to . . . never again. Any chance of that happening again is too great for me.

Because I would love to see her with a companion again. Someone for her to go dinner with, movies, someone she can just spend the day and enjoy each others company. I believe she was so jaded from being married to my father, I want her to experience a 'good and decent' relationship.

I love that!

I'm married but I can understand why some divorced ladies might shy away from men. The whole getting burnt thing has got to make an impression.

can you really blame them??? :laundy: :laundy: :laundy: :laundy: :scared:
Maybe they feel they been there, done that, and don't want to do another mans laundry???

This doesn't sound like anything she can't get from a good friendship... or a good daughter, for that matter, if hers live nearby.
