Why do soccer aka football players flop?

Canada too.

Don't know about that but I have played with a few former pros and and some other guys that have been involved with English Football clubs and what they describe is a lot different that what I've been told about US and Canadian clubs.

Canada has taken on some “Concacaf dark arts” in the past couple of years. Scotland is a very physical league, as is the EFL Championship. When we play you guys in June (assuming we will both play in the final), Canada will play a more physical gameplay, while the USA will try to outplay them using superior talent (I view Canada as second best in terms of overall talent in the region).

I agree with @Buzz Rules. They're trying to "game" the referee into calling a foul. You actually see it in every sport (not the rolling on the ground, but trying to game the ref).

As far as the shin guards... A) they don't cover the entire shin, probably not even 1/2 and B) they're not a lot of protection.
How do the refs not laugh? Are the players covering their faces to hold in a laugh? Everytime I try to watch I end up cracking up, seems like it takes a ton of acrobatic training to fake this well, especially the ongoing rolling. Why & what is happening??? Also, thank you for doing it, but still, why?

I do love a good flop. We rate them at home and give them "soccer Emmy's," although I guess they would be called "futbol Emmy's."
