Why do so many people have problems with DVC

Maybe my wife and I are too easy going or dont complain as much as other people but DVC has been very good for us so far. We get our points, we make a reservation, we go and we come back. I have been reading a few different posts about people having problems and it just seems odd. They are not going to be perfect and every situation is different but they have been very positive for us so far.

Same here, 12 trips without any major problems. Remember there are over 100,000 members. Only the most vocal show up on these boards. If you are unhappy you are likely to be vocal about it. few bother to post when they have trouble free visits.

Message boards (in general terms) can be a place for people to vent and the negative can dominate. These boards are better than most though.

Personally I take your approach. Nothing is ever perfect, but DVC has been a blessing so far.

Is DVC perfect? No.

Is anything in life perfect? Not really.

Does DVC make me happy? Yes!

Without sounding too cliche, life is what you make of it and depends on your outlook. I tend to be an optimistic person and look for the good in people and experiences. DVC has been a wonderful experience for us and we look forward to many more trips with friends and family until 2057 (and beyond)!

We've only been in DVC a couple of years, but we've been going to WDW since the late 70s. Our DVC experiences have all been very positive so far.

I do understand high expectations though. For some folks, perhaps MOST folks, the DVC investment is a major long-term commitment and they expect utmost bang for the buck, and indeed it should be delivered. I have no other expericence with timeshares so I have nothing to compare it to.

In any case, I'm thankful to be among the DVC-ers and enjoy it immensely:earsboy:

Right there with you. My only complaint will be if they change the resale contract rules significantly without grandfathering prior purchases.

We've been members for almost 4 years and no complaints yet. We love our DVC.:lovestruc:lovestruc

I've had several DVC trips and some issues on all of them (some big and some small.) But I could say the same about any other trip we've gone on outside of DVC. But Disney management has always made things right and that's one of the reasons I bought DVC in the first place - I guess some will argue with me, but I think the customer service is phenomenal. I still believe in Disney magic : )

We have made 7 DVC trips since 2006 without a snag. We are happy!:thumbsup2

Precisely.

You don't sound cliche at all, I think you hit the nail on the head. Many look for negatives things and dwell on them and once they find something they look for other things and the next thing you know you have a post about how horrible of a trip they had. I have never had a bad trip to WDW and I have stayed at every level of resorts. Your trips are what you make of them.

we have been DVC members since 1998. As some previous posters have said we have had some positive and some negative experiences but it is what you make of it that counts. We joined because it "forced" us to take a yearly vacation that we would not normally:woohoo: have taken. The only thing we would change is more "perks" for the DVC members. We have never really had any problems getting reservations, and have always enjoyed the accommodations.

I would be willing to bet that they do NOTHING to segregate direct versus resale purchasers. There is NO UPSIDE in doing so for DVD. They MAY segregate people who have more points than others, but how you got those points will be immaterial.

ChiSox: don't count on it. Every other major timeshare developer has gone this route. Either there is something in it for them, or they are all foolish.

That said: discussion boards devoted to a particular topic are populated by the people who obsess over that topic. Strike up conversations around the pool at the resort next time you are there, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts that every Member you find is pleased as punch.

Love Disney and DVC gives us the reason/choices to have awesome vacations.
If I ever get a lemon, I'll just make lemonade :)

We just joined in December from resale. So far all of our interactions with DVC members services has been excellent. We have our first trip in 9 days, so we're excited. We have to move around a little because of a last-minute reservation, but that's understandable. So far, the service has been great. We hope that our first trip on points will be even better.

Easy going and don't complain much..... if you checked into your villa at 5pm because it was not ready before then, which was fine, we all know that check in is "after" 4pm, would you be easy going if your room was dirty.

Beds not made, toliets with the previous guest's poo, and not Winnie, left behind, glass broken on the kitchen floor, and leftovers in the frig and blood and hair.

I am a very optimistic person, too, I was optimistic that I bought a quality product and that my dues cover housekeeping to a standard at least equal to any other Disney resort.

I think some people that rave about Disney's quality and service simply have never experienced a major problem. Kinda hard to evaluate their stellar service until its put to the test.

We have made over 50 trips using our DVC and we only began to have problems with cleaniness and maintenance in the last couple of year.

If you were not a member that far in the past it would not be possible to know just how good it was.

We must be the exception. We have been members since 1995 and in March we will be taking our 64th trip. We are looking forward to it just as much as our 1st. Each trip has been magical and we are looking forward to the next 64.
We wish everyone the same.

Count us in the "Happy" column. Even DH, who is not the Disney fanatic that I am, has fallen in love with DVC.

Sammie, I am sorry for your icky experience. We actually had some bad hotel experiences last summer, but they were not DVC.

We are also very laid back in terms of understanding things happen. However, if I have a serious issue, I will certainly make sure that I share that with management so that things can be better for the next guest.

I think that some who have issues with DVC now, have seen a change in the program and the resorts over the years and from what I read, it sounds like not for the better.

For me, having only been a member for 2 years, we are pleased with our membership so far.

I also think, though, that not everyone understands all the elements of DVC as a timeshare vs. a Disney hotel stay as a resort guest. And, when these two different types of vacation mindsets collide, frustration ensues.
