Why do people say DH, DD DS & DW?

I like it because it's convenient when I don't want to use my family members names, and when I don't want to write out "my husband", "my grandson", etc. And it would be awkward to have it written like "on Saturday, H and S are coming with me to WDW". So the D just makes it work. ;)

I didn't know it meant dearest! I always thought it was "Disney husband", "Disney daughter, " etc. I think I'll keep thinking of it my way.

I like the "D", it just adds to the disney magic!!! Dearest doesn't work for me, Disney does...and Disney it will always be.

Oh my gosh... all this time I thought it meant DARLING.... my DARLING Son, DARLING Daughter... I feel so silly now! :rotfl2:

It means Dear, Dearest, Darling, Damn, Dang, Disney, or whatever you feel at the moment! The point is, no matter what message board I go on (and I go to a LOT!), I can write, "LOL! This is OT, but DH and I went to AL to visit my DB21 and his DFi, and, IMHO, newly engaged ppl are so disgusting, KWIM? LOL!" And everyone will know what I mean, KWIM?

I thought it was darlin too being from the south we say darlin alot. :lmao: either that or Sugar. :rotfl:

When I type them, DH means Dear (or Darned, depending on how I am feeling at the moment :teeth: ) Husband and DD means Darling Daughter. Just the way I think of them. I also like to think the D can mean Disney Husband, Daughter, Son, Wife, etc, etc.

That is used on all message boards - not just the Dis - it's just internet lingo and has been for years.

OP, do you post on any other message boards online? You should see it other places, too. I've always known it didn't stand for "disney" because the Dis is not the first or last place to use "D" before each name. Though disney is very cute! ;)

Don't forget sweetie if you're from the south. Having a mother from the south I grew up with that. Of course I tend to call everyone sweetie, including my son's friends  (just like my mom used to :lmao: ).

Ive always heard it referred to as "Darling" whatever.... It's not just a DIS thing - it's been around on boards / internet for YEARRRRRSSSSS....

I dont use it. I think it's lame.

I have son's and a fiance. Not DF's, and DS's

When I refer to my husband, I just call him hubby because really...he doesn't always qualify for "dear" or "dearest". And I really can't see myself refering to him as either of those anyway. To me, it's not something I'd ever say, so why type it?

And the first time I saw DH, I really thought the person meant "Damn" or "Dumb". Took me a bit to realize that they weren't ticked off at him that day.

Along those same lines, do y'all think we might could suggest a different abbreviation for breastfeeding? The first time I saw a post about "BF'ing" I had a Beavis and Butthead moment. I can't think of another abbreviation that doesn't make the situation worse, but I'm sure someone here can.

I'm all for other kinds of message board shorthand, frankly, because I'm lazy, but wife only has two more letters than DW. Son only has one more that DS!

Anyway, the whole D-letter isn't something I like to read nor do I like to use it. JMHO.

Pure laziness. :thumbsup2

Or a few too many Miller Lights????? ;) :teeth: By the way is it 5 yet??

I do it because of laziness too. Typing dh is way easier than typing my husband. For Ds it isn't hard to type son but daughter, mother in law...they all take more key strokes and for me it's all about being as short in the typing dept as possible.
