I get so frustrated! I live in an apartment complex and have a reserved handicap space right out front. It has my apt number on it, so It is JUST for me!
Now This space screams to people, park here if you are moving out...park here if you are just visiting!
I get so bugged by people parking in my space, I am now calling police and they are getting slapped with a 300 dollar fine! I spend more hours sitting waiting for my space...!!!!

I just ran to the store, came home...20 minutes I waited till this loser comes out to his truck! My truck is big, and , well, I do not need an excuse, it is my space!
I told him he is getting a 300 dollar fine, he said I was in there for 2 minutes...no I timed it.

please people, a handicap space is not a taxi waiting spot for you if you cannot use one, it is not a spot for the moving van to park.

It is just very rude, and frustrating for use who need our spaces!
and be forewarned, if YOU park in my space, I am gonna get ya, and you will pay 300 bucks! lol;)

It is frustrating for sure.

. I have not seen a dedicated/reserved for one person handicap parking space. Is it on private property? If so does everyone have reserved spaces handi or not?

I've seen one, up the street from where I work. Just a single handicapped space, marked on the curb, just in front of a small apartment building. No other handicapped spaces on the street. I think it's great that such a thing was arranged with the city. It's very clearly marked, so no one should be dumb enough to park (or stop) in it for any reason.

They deserve the fine!

I hear you and it's extremely frustrating when people park in the white lines meant for loading a wheelchair. That is not an extra parking spot.

And, at my daughter's elementary school, I have a hard time getting a handicapped parking spot, and she is IN A WHEELCHAIR. A bunch of people have handicapped tags, but my daughter is the only one in a wheelchair. Yet I still have to fight for a spot. Ugh.

yes, it is private property,
There are 6 building in this complex, and there are 5 reserved HP spaces for the tenants who live here( 5 in each building). People who visit are suppose to park in a visitors parking area. My space is reserved just for me, as all HP spaces here, yes it is private property, and I think people think they cannot get a ticket! but yep, they can! When I got my space, they take a copy of your plate or tempcard, (which I have both) and then they put your apt number on your space. But people just ignore it.
And the funny thin is I am the one who gets sworn at from these people that are doing the wrong thing! hum...
hey, just do not park in HP!

Best way to go.. Hit them "in the wallet"..:thumbsup2

Good for you bust them, I hate when people think they can park anywhere they feel like. You should see if you can get the cars towed, that way they would have to go out of there way to get the car back.:lmao:

One time when I was working at a supermarket it was raining and everyone was parking in the front in the Fire Zone waiting for whoever was in the store to come out, and the alarm went off (water pressure nothing big, but everyone came) the 1st on the scene was 4 cops , 2 came in to see what the problem was, the other 2 rounded up everyone in the Fire Zone and gave them tickets. One of the cops who shopped in the store told me one guy was saying thats only if theres a fire, he told us that the guy quickly shut up when the Fire Trucks showed up.

I have run into this before and can't understand why people get so worked up about this. Just park and walk a little bit, no big deal.

I know a woman who needs a handicapped space and the space with the hash marks next to it to load and unload her daughter's wheelchair at her school. She got really sick of people parking in the hash marks with the excuse that they weren't actually in the handicapped space. So she just started blocking them in and going about her business. If they came back, they would have the wait the several minutes it took to get her daughter in or out of the car. It would also give the school custodian a chance to come out and give the person an earful about parking there!

Good for you. Keep calling on them.

I will tell you why, 1. it is against the law! 2. I am handicap, and have walking issues, when I get home I am usually hanging on to the truck then walk to get into the house. 3. It is private and assigned parking, I would have to walk a pretty long way!
4. it is your type that would be the ignorant person and park in my space!
that is why people get worked up!

It is not easy to get a HP, and we should not have to explain ourselves! I hope someday when you cannot walk that someone parks in your space! maybe it will be me!

Part of the problem is that people are just lazy. I'm not talking about the handicapped people who can not walk, I am talking about the fully capable people who choose not to.

I have seen people drive past 10 open parking spaces to sit in their car and wait for someone to pull out for 5 minutes. They could have been parked and in the store but wanted to be 20 feet closer. These same people are probably some of the same ones who would rather just park in the close handicapped space then the slightly further away normal parking space.

Good for you for calling the police. The only time it might be an honest mistake is when the space is only marked on the ground and it is covered in snow. Up here most of the places have signs but there are some that are only painted on the ground or they have a blue curb. In the middle of winter sometimes you have no idea if it is a handicapped spot, especially if it is an establishment or complex you aren't familiar with.

No, I have then tall metal HP sign with a sign saying that this space is for apt 1103. So there is no mistake, it is pure ignorance. Visitors are not even suppose park in this area to begin with. There is no excuse's, period. It is just wrong, and I love that the police enjoy throwing a $300 dollar ticket on there window, or there hand.
One day a women got into a fight with a cop, and the cop said, Listen lady, there is not any excuse at all for parking hear, I just do not want to hear it....period, and now that is what I do! This has been going on for 3 years, it is the past 11 months I have done something about it, even the mailman does it. Now he is to lazy!

I'm guessing (hoping?) the people you advise to just "walk a little bit" are the violators and not the handicapped drivers?

VERY few people understand the specific purpose of an HP space - it's actually to get the eligible person out of the flow of traffic as quickly and safely as possible. Sure, many HP spots are close to building entrances, but not all are.

Couple of examples in my own life: the HP spots at the credit union are at the opposite end of the building from the door, because that's where the curb cut is. Ditto for work - there are stairs with parking on each side, directly opposite the door, but the handicap parking is ten spots away, where the sidewalk dips to parking lot level.

It's just plain illegal to park in a handicap parking spot without a DMV-issued plate or placard indicating eligibility - and, for the record, being qualified for HP parking isn't fun. It means you have one of several serious medical conditions.

While I'm venting - the person to whom the plate/placard is issued must be not just in the vehicle, but entering/exiting the vehicle when it is parked in the HP spot. Those spots are not for use when while one waits for an able-bodied person to shop, etc.

:thumbsup2! Not that she needs justification, but the proper response to that ridiculous excuse is, "Correct - that's not a parking space AT ALL".

I took it that Art 1 was directing comments to the violators and not the handicapped people. Art 1 doesn't understand why people need to park in the handicapped space illegally. It's not a big deal to park and walk a little bit more. At least that's how I took it.

Good for you for standing your ground.

My Mom has a hanicapped sticker for some health problems she has but she will only use it when absolutely necessary (she has fibromialgia and the days when her joints are really bad she will use it). So today we went out to see a movie and her joints were bothering her so I parked in the handicapped spot. Well when we came out there was a car squished into the hashmark space so close to my car that I could not get in (had to get in the passanger side and climb over. I hate when people do that and they did not even have a handicap sticker. Also the parking lot was not that crowded so there is absolutely no excuse.

OP this definitely my Pet Peeve. I hate coming home and not being able to park and just go home. Pretty much equal with that is finding someone parked in the hatch marks so there is no space to load my wheelchair and, I can't leave to go to work in the morning. When it happens in the morning like that other people are around and are very nice about moving my car for me. The last time it happened was on a Saturday so there wasn't anybody around. I rang the police, the officer moved my car for me and wrote the guy $400 in fines.

That is truly the best way to handle it. If they get socked with enough fines, eventually the practice will stop.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 OP, good for you for doing this! I wish I could get tickets written for the MANY things I see idiots doing almost every day I go out.
