Anybody notice how opinionated people get on here? It's overkill. To each his own. . .

Sadly it won't change though. One of the issues with internet socialization is we forget we are talking to people... so all of the mean, terrible things you think in the back of your mind when somebody says something you don't like just come right out in writing. We know we are all people, but we aren't real we are just the words on a screen. Then the crazy is reacted to and you get a whole chain. If you sat all the same people in a room you would have people who on forums are ready to fight to the death calmly discussing why they disagree.
Well, you are asking for opinions, is it any surprise you get them? Even this posts "why are there so many opinionated people here?" is asking for opinions. People often get exactly what they asked for - an opinion on if they should do x or y. And sometimes someone has an opinion that they should do z instead. Sometimes people jump in and give their opinion uninvited, but generally it is topical. And often subsequent posts have nothing to do with the OP at all, but are discussions about an opinion posted by someone not the op.
I didn't ask "why are people so opinionated?" I asked if anyone noticed. I have been a member for a few years. I do think it has something to do with the anonymous nature of the Internet.

But opinions are all subjective and intensity, especially in the situations you posted is only how it reads. Some topics deserve true intensity if you are on the budget board complaining about your student loans while planning a deluxe dining Disney trip you are going to get a different degree of intensity then if you put egg in your stuffing. (Ick!). See I put an exclamation point even though I don't think that person will go to hell for putting it in theirs. People only post to the subjects that interest them. And with interest you get varying degrees of opinions.I get what the OP is talking about. There's a huge difference between people having opinions and getting morally superior over not serving Stove-Top to your family or freaking out like it's some kind of mortal sin to patronize businesses on a holiday. It's not just the opinions. It's the sheer intensity of them, and that it often fails to be an appropriate level of intensity for whatever the topic happens to be...
The people in your real life don't have and express their opinions? I can't imagine that. It seems so boring.
I live in a college setting with extremely well read people. Lively conversation is the norm.

I may understand the background and context but still have a visceral opinion about something that is not logic based

Your title is why do people get judgy. The post content is then "have you noticed?" You are asking for an opinion. At least, that was how I read the combination of your title plus your post content. Yes, I have noticed. That is normal for every internet board I've participated in in fifteen years. I think Mommy boards are the worst, myself, and after about a month decided that I would be Mommy board free. Once in a while, if I want to remind myself what gasoline on a fire looks like, I can go look at vaccination, breastfeeding, or natural childbirth threads on a Mommy board.
