Anybody notice how opinionated people get on here? It's overkill. To each his own. . .

Sadly it won't change though. One of the issues with internet socialization is we forget we are talking to people... so all of the mean, terrible things you think in the back of your mind when somebody says something you don't like just come right out in writing. We know we are all people, but we aren't real we are just the words on a screen. Then the crazy is reacted to and you get a whole chain. If you sat all the same people in a room you would have people who on forums are ready to fight to the death calmly discussing why they disagree.

Yes, plus a line I love by a person explaining internet bullying... anonymous people making statements that require no courage and get no repercussions.

Until social internet ends it will always be an issue.

Right or wrong, we are all imperfect in the eyes of someone and sometimes that someone maybe all too willing to express it.

Eh, there isn't anything wrong with having opinions. They are no different than yours about opinions being "overkill". Right?

Really who are you to judge the opinions of others?

I think part of it is that people misinterpret what others say, get offended, and it just escalates really fast. Since you don't have body language or voice inflections or tone or anything to go by, it's just much easier to take something a different way than it was intended or to read more into it.

You also get people who just like to yell.

There are also a lot of people that see any disagreement as an attack, especially without the instant feedback of face to face communication.

I think people should meet in the middle. No attacking, but no expectation that responses will be sugar coated.

Dis Boards is pretty well known for the opinionated posters. This place is a magnet for them. Honestly, I think many of us Dis people are just like that. Poor cast members! Lol

Well, you are asking for opinions, is it any surprise you get them? Even this posts "why are there so many opinionated people here?" is asking for opinions.

People often get exactly what they asked for - an opinion on if they should do x or y. And sometimes someone has an opinion that they should do z instead.

Sometimes people jump in and give their opinion uninvited, but generally it is topical. And often subsequent posts have nothing to do with the OP at all, but are discussions about an opinion posted by someone not the op.

Said well. My opinion of course!;)

I didn't ask "why are people so opinionated?" I asked if anyone noticed. I have been a member for a few years. I do think it has something to do with the anonymous nature of the Internet.

agree However you need to get a "feel" for some of the frequent posters. When I first started reading the boards there were a few people that really rubbed me the wrong way and I hated reading their posts. However now I value their opinions.

Money is difficult to discuss because everyone has a strong opinion.

The people in your real life don't have and express their opinions? I can't imagine that. It seems so boring.

I live in a college setting with extremely well read people. Lively conversation is the norm.

I get what the OP is talking about. There's a huge difference between people having opinions and getting morally superior over not serving Stove-Top to your family or freaking out like it's some kind of mortal sin to patronize businesses on a holiday. :lmao:

It's not just the opinions. It's the sheer intensity of them, and that it often fails to be an appropriate level of intensity for whatever the topic happens to be...

But opinions are all subjective and intensity, especially in the situations you posted is only how it reads. Some topics deserve true intensity if you are on the budget board complaining about your student loans while planning a deluxe dining Disney trip you are going to get a different degree of intensity then if you put egg in your stuffing. (Ick!). See I put an exclamation point even though I don't think that person will go to hell for putting it in theirs. People only post to the subjects that interest them. And with interest you get varying degrees of opinions. :)

Lol, eta, the egg bothers me even though I know the chemistry and logic behind it. Opinions are sometimes like that too. I may understand the background and context but still have a visceral opinion about something that is not logic based:)

Its normal in my house as well.

There ARE conversations you don't talk about in real life without an invite - like finances. But this is the budget board, by posting here you are inviting the conversation.

Your title is why do people get judgy. The post content is then "have you noticed?" You are asking for an opinion. At least, that was how I read the combination of your title plus your post content.

Yes, I have noticed. That is normal for every internet board I've participated in in fifteen years. I think Mommy boards are the worst, myself, and after about a month decided that I would be Mommy board free. Once in a while, if I want to remind myself what gasoline on a fire looks like, I can go look at vaccination, breastfeeding, or natural childbirth threads on a Mommy board.

I think opinions are fine. I think it's when people judge others that gets me.

Like if my opinion is that I like FP+ than I'm an idiot (now that's harsh)

Or if I say my kid was scared in the ToT line but I made him ride and he loved it (than I get called a bad parent)

Both those responses can be considered someone's opinion of me but it's also a judgement and not necessary.

It's the wording that can get outta control and sometimes it's so hard to read through text what someone's trying to say.

All opinions should be allowed but the judgement is what makes me mad.

[ And that's my opinion ;) ]
