Let's name our kid after a TV Station. There is unique and then there is .......!

My Dh's former boss has two kids, I call them Kick and Me. Poor kids. I don't want to print them here for fear they might be secret disers!

How is it pronounced? E-S-P-N or Espen? Idiots. I remember seeing a baby announcement in our local paper a couple of years ago. The baby's name was Anakin. :sad2:

That's what my exh originally wanted to name our baby if she was a boy. Luckily, he changed it to Logan (after an X-Men character) instead. :teeth:

I know several Anakin's. And this ESPN isn't the first. During the stations (25th ?) anniversary they profiled 2 or 3 other kids with the name.

ESPN the Magazine did an article on this awhile back - turns out "Espen" is an actual Norwegian name.

"ESPEN m Norwegian, Danish
Variant of ASBJØRN"

I do work for the Paternity Department at the Courthouse sometimes. You should see the names that I run across!!!

We had a cat named Anakin - it has been 13 months since he crossed the rainbow bridge - he lived to be 19 years old.

I don't remember where I heard it but I remember something about Anakin or Annakin being a scandanavian name or version of a scandanavian name. Don't know if that is actually true though.

There have been people that have named their kids Female and Male. (pronounced like tamale) I guess in the hospital , after birth, that was on their babies bassinet and they just thought..."that sounds good!" :rotfl2:

I like the prounounciation "Espen". I like Anakin too though. I think unique names are special.

As soon as I read the title I thought of Eddie Murphy. I think it was Beverly Hill Cop 2. He went into some upscale firing range place (I think, it's been a while since I saw it) and went to the lady at the front desk and was telling a sob story about his twin DD's, Monique and Unique. DH and I still have to laugh about that line and wonder if anyone ever ended up naming twin DD's this because of the movie.
At the school I volunteer at there used to be a family that had Jupiter and Shadow. I can't remember what the next in line was named. We do have an Anakin there also.

Some of these parents who name these children all of these weird names are begging for their kids to be picked on. :confused3 Sometimes life is hard enough without burdening a child with names that can hinder them .

You know what struck me about this? Heather & Heath!!!! What are the odds!! Are those the parents real names? Sounds like a brother and sister act!

:thumbsup2 I think those names are better then some of the common names out there, I won't give any examples because I don't want to hurt peoples feelings.

Given a choice between a unique name, and being one of 12 David's or Jennifers in a class, I'd probably take the unique name. If the kid doesn't like it, he will just pick up a nickname.

I went to high school with twins names Heather and Heath. Hope it's not them ;) :scared:

There was a guy that I once worked with who would name his kids based on when they were conceived. One was named Autumn Moon. I don't remember the others.

What's wrong with unique (actually, it's "unusual", since "unique" implies there aren't any others like it) names? We named our daughter after a character from a book. The character is a princess, and her name basically means "hope of the world". It took our parents a few days to get used to, but DW and I have loved it from the beginning.

We also gave her a slightly more common name as a middle name, so she could use it or a derivative of it later in life if she chose to do so (and "Kathryn" has plenty of derivatives to choose from :teeth: ).

Can't see naming a kid "Espn", but that's just personal preference. Personally, I like it better than many of the more "common" names out there, just as I like "Elora" better than "Brittany", "Ashley", or "Savannah" or any other "names-of-the-'90's".
