Why do parents insist on bringing gifts when the invite says "No Gifts!"

Perhaps the OP is not a 'girlie' type woman.

:rotfl:

I have I have always gotten a male vibe from this poster. Although the OP for some reason won't come right and and say she is a she, she is sure upset that people thinks she is a he. I wonder why.

Wrong again. DD referred to going over to play with the girlies all on her own. But nice knowing what DD will come up with. It is truly a term of endearment in our house. Not yours, no big deal. But commenting on it is quite rude.

Speaking of girlies, are you a guy or a girlie?

I think the OP is too busy tweaking all of us to send us a code.

Or can't remember which log in/member name to use to respond to each thread she's got going here right now.

Some of us have been here for a decade and have seen this one before.

OP's DC(ow) is probably missing its leased family, so s/he had to provide a little quality time. Cut her/him some slack!!

Okay, my whole family now thinks I'm out of my mind for sitting here and laughing hysterically at this thread. Thanks all, I needed the laughs! :goodvibes

So, yes, men can and do have (domestic) partners, and the partner might be male or female.
They may but where I am from, men do not refer to their male partners as DP. It is always a significant other or SO. On the other hand, I being female have a domestic partner who is also female, hence DP.

Like I said upthread, it may be a regional thing.

DD, DP and I had the best girlie evening. Salon for her AG and dinner at teppanyaki. Sadly the nail salon was booked up. Now DD is asleep, Calgon take us away in a girlie bath.

Well - this thread has certainly turned out to be..... Ummm...

:headache::confused3:rolleyes1:confused::eek::

I will give it points for being informative though.. Never knew I could lease a cow in Switzerland - and then go to visit said cow.. That's what I love about the DIS - you learn something new every day..:thumbsup2

I very bravely googled "cows for lease" and found this interesting web site. You can lease a tree, or a goat, or bees... I think I have found a very unique gift for the girlie who has everything.

http://www.rentmothernature.com/leases.shtml

Now all I need is a gift-giving occasion. :goodvibes

I wonder if the DC(ow) is a girlie or a boyie.

Aren't all cows female? Not to mention:

You can lease a cow in Switzerland for a season and pay to go visit your cow, care for your cow and depending on the package receive up to 30 KILOS of cheese the milk from your cow produces.

It's been a while since I've had health class but I have sure yet to lactate.

I believe male cattle are called bulls. I can only imagine what those are rented for. :rotfl:

Our family is blended in that we have different customs and religions in which we were raised. One involves a Christian religion, one involves a Jewish religion and now we follow certain aspects of other beliefs as well.

hmmm....i never knew there was more than 1 Jewish religion.
And all this time growing up in synagogue I thought Judaism was teh only jewish religion. I wonder if I was raised in the wrong Jewish religion?
Man...you really do learn somethign new on the DIS everyday;)

This thread is defintiely something else.
I havent laughed so hard in a loong time.

So, if you are willing to share, I really did get fascinated by the cow site. Which package did you get? The four month seasonal thing or just a month to month package or was there somehting else offered at the time you decided to do this? Is this the first time you have done it? How has your experience been so far? If the price were closer to what the sheep adoption was I would probably do it for teh kids this spring. It would be fun to go down to the farm once a month and get out of the city.
I read about this three years ago. We did some research how the whole town comes out when it is time to move the cows into the highlands of the Swiss Alps and sounded so fascinating. So for the past two years we just leased the cow, got pictures of our cow and received 2 kilos of cheese. It was more for the novelty of it like naming a star after someone or getting a certificate for a piece of land on the moon.

This year we decided to go for the whole season and will go to participate in the moving of the cattle up into the highlands. We will visit "our cow" which we will lease for the season and work on the farm.

People pay tons of money to go to Israel to go work for three weeks on a kibbutz, we thought it would be wonderful to go "work" in the Alps.

It is not exactly cheap, but honestly we are paying for the experience and for the memories. We like to do things because they are out of the ordinary and different.

For instance, you can go out to the wine country and eat bread, butter, cheese and sparkling wine at Domaine Chandon and over look this wonderful CA wine country or you can go have lunch and wine at Castello Di Verrazzano and overlook the vineyards in Tuscany.

It is all about the journey and the experience. I hope you get to experience it for yourself.

Hey! Are you trying to say the wine county in CA is subpar to Tuscany? I lived 22 years of my life there. Don't be insulting my homeland!;)

Thanks for comming back and telling me what you are up to and how this evolved. Fascinating.:thumbsup2 I truly hope you have a wonderful time in Switzerland--it sure is lovely. When will you be travelling? Can I ask how it is that you were able to lease the cow for the past two years without doing the visit/work. It seems from the website (and the articles in Time and what not that I am finding in English also) that this is pretty much required of everyone. Were you able to work out some special deal with then somehow to allow yo uto skip out on this the past coupel of years? Also, did they ship the cheese to you? How did that work with regulations about perishable foods comming into the US and how will it work when you bring your cheese home (oh and how much will you get to bring)?

I was thinking of this thread at DS11's birthday party today. He invited 4 boys and all four came. Friday at school his friend from Russia told Rio he was able to come but had to bring his dad's boss's daughter along:confused3 Odd, but you know DS was just thrilled that this boy could come and did not care one way or the other about the girl comming so I figured why not. We are Americans, living in Germany and these were both Russian kids. So between the differences in cultural expectations and the possible language issues I was not upset, but it did seem a bit odd to invite along another person (not even a sibling) to a party out (it was at a big indoor play type place which, of course, charges per child). These two arrived alone on the bus and left alone about 45 minutes early (but after dark) to go back home on the bus as well (we were obligated to stay and "chaperone" the others, there is a 2 adult minimum rule, or else we would have taken them home).

There was also the option to spend the night. We have a boy sleeping here now who I had never met before the party today. His parents emailed last week that he would be here and that Grandma will pick him up in the morning. They did send phone numbers. They did not even get out of the car when dropping him off--so I have still never met them:rolleyes: I could never be comfortable leaving my 11 year old to sleep over with someone whose parents I had literally never spoken a word too! Again, just a cultural difference. He is a super sweet kid and we are totally happy with how it came out--but I WAS wondering how the DIS would respond to these situations, especially after seeing how the debate on this thread went:upsidedow

If only the internet had been around while my daddy was still alive.......He could have spun a tale of how charming and quaint our East Texas cows and chickens were and in no time flat, we could have had a bunch of European tourists doing our chores for us. :rotfl2: Dang.....
