Why do parents insist on bringing gifts when the invite says "No Gifts!"

Perhaps the OP is not a 'girlie' type woman.

Maybe she is maybe she isn't maybe OP is not a she (still has not flat out answered the question, being intentionally evasive as usual). In any case the attitude is weird and not a good one from a parent. If OP is a she and is not girlie why is she pushing girlie so heavily on her daughter? Why label so many things as specifically girlie to begin with (like baths with jets on:confused3). The more I read this thread the more I am just relieved that my kid is not invited to this party.

I'm guessing we must be very girlie - even DH. We all use the large jacuzzi in my master bath (not together, mind you. Now THAT would be thread:lmao:) without even realizing bathing is something worth mentioning - much less a girlie activity. I can assure you that DD9 does not find anything special about it since she's been doing it regularly since toddlerhood - unless you count the few times she's put too much bubble liquid in and filled the entire bathroom with a thick carpet of bubbles by accident. In my experience people who have things/do things IRL don't feel the need to bring attention to them. It becomes a given.

The other thing I don't get is why OP is already discussing/obsessing over party invites if it's not until summer as it appears from the cow lease program. Surely, in six months there's plenty of time to open and/or sell a few of the excess Festivus gifts from 2008 and make some room in that closet to put new ones in if neccessary. After all, as OP stated, they are very blessed to have their income come from a variety of sources.

Heck, I know either of my "girlies" could rip through six packages in ten minutes flat while still having time to say a heartfelt thank you, AND probably even put them away, if pressed to do so. Those must be some wrapping jobs if it takes over a year to get them open and two weeks isn't enough time to say thanks while shoving them into a closet...

I love this sentiment. :goodvibes

Thank you:goodvibes Andy B said basically the same thing upthread and I do agree with it. It just took me about 24 hours to figure out how to put it succinctly into what I really believe. I am a little slow sometimes:rolleyes1

Am I the only one who every time I see the word "girlies" automatically thinks of "the girls" as in ****s?:confused3:laughing:
Two tantruming ****s that live across the street from the OP. Picture it!:lmao:

I think today I will lease a pheasant from Slovania for my kids. We can go visit it for Christmas this year. God help if anyone tries to buy my kids a gift though for Christmas! I will make sure to tell them that my children need no such things as all they want is to go to Slovania to see their bird!;)

I had not thought of it that way, but NOW I am afriad I will have that image in my mind every time:lmao:

am I the only one who thinks kids don't necessarily needs gifts on bday's? It seems so many posters have a problem with that. We've given our girls trips and parties as their gifts before and the OP's child probably gets gifts year round as well. I know mine do. People are acting like it is cruel and unusual punishment! I mean there are certian religions that don't believe in gifts/celebrations even....oh my!
This has nothing to do with religion at all. My DD was given a choice for her 7th birthday. A party here with as many friends as she wanted or a NO GIFT party where we would pay for a limo and a ride to the Melting Pot plus a sleepover afterwards. My DD made the choice herself to do the limo and Melting pot and sleepover with six of the girlies.

I find it rude that some people are having an issue with the term girlie and calling it out. I happen to question the use of ressie when the term is reservation, but I certainly never engage in insults. But to each their own, they just get on the ignore list and are never responded to.

The issue with Switzerland and the cow was just an example of how our DD is not for want and will not miss a bunch of gits.

Starting this thread grew out of our observation before discussing this event of going to other no gift parties and seeing the utter defiance against the host wishes by people who brought gifts.

"Ressie" is not a condescending term, but "girlie" is. Condescending and downright strange.

Ignore away! Fine by me. It won't keep me awake at night!

Thanks for fianlly posting someting succint and easy to understand:thumbsup2

So, if you are willing to share, I really did get fascinated by the cow site. Which package did you get? The four month seasonal thing or just a month to month package or was there somehting else offered at the time you decided to do this? Is this the first time you have done it? How has your experience been so far? If the price were closer to what the sheep adoption was I would probably do it for teh kids this spring. It would be fun to go down to the farm once a month and get out of the city.

Well every kid I know wants a Swiss Cow for their birthday. I wonder how they will keep up with the demand? :confused3

As for the term "girlie" it is obnoxious in the way that you use it. You use it in a condescending way. If you ever referred to my children as "the girlies" I would set you straight. It is not the word itself that is the issue. It is the tone in which you use it.

Now if my kids get an invitation to the Melting Pot/Limo/Sleepover/No gift party I will be sure to say no. :surfweb:

Yep!:thumbsup2

Well if I was your kids I would ask to go to the Beirgarten.;)
