Why do paper cuts hurt so much?

I think I could saw off my leg and it wouldn't hurt as bad as a paper cut. Unfortunately, I have 2 on the same hand.

I think it's because there is a large concentration of nerve endings in fingers.

I don't know, but the liquid bandaid is probably great for that.

Thanks Rita. I found out the hard way Suave sparkly lotion isn't the best thing for them.

Sugardimples, my paper cuts are actually on my palm.

Oh yes! I'm getting some documents ready for a training course next week and I have a MOUNTAIN of paper on my desk - each little page just waiting to embed itself into some part of my anatomy when I'm not looking!!

They do hurt, I seem to be always cutting my fingers on envelopes.

I have a nice new cut today off of a tin, I think you call them cans -it had food in it anyway and I caught the top when I opened it up. It really stings when I wash my hands!

Um, the Bath & Body Works Anti-bacterial hand gel (sun-ripened rasberry) that I have on my desk at work is not real good for them either !
I got a small paper cut on Wedneday, right next to my thumbnail...it's been throbbing at night!!

I read about paper cuts in Good Housekeeping the other night. The reason they hurt so much is that your fingertips have many nerve endings - sensitivity needed to detect hot, cold, rough, soft, and other sensations. That is why slicing the tip with paper is so painful.
