Why do non-DVC members get the dining plan free?

I was thinking Jan so that everyone usually knows when they are going and Jan is the begining of the year so you can buy your tickets at that time and use them when you go during what ever time of the year you go. That would be a nice way to get most DVC members there every year and add a bonus to being a DVC Member. Not saying you have to use the ticket in Jan but just a small window of a discount to be used anytime during the year. Just a thought. Looking for more way to talk the DH to going more.:thumbsup2

Why offer you a discount? You're coming anyway.

Disney doesn't offer discounts to be nice, or to reward loyalty, or for any reason other than: (1) to get people to come who might not otherwise visit, and (2) to get them to spend even more money when they get there.

DVC Members are already coming. That leaves things like dining discounts, etc. where "you gotta spend money to save money."

Do you want to know something this may not make much sense but if we didn't have to pay so much for the park ticket we would probably buy more point. That would most likley turn out better for disney because points are more and we would go more. If you can make anything out of that. I works for me.

It's kind of like my cousin. He brags that he goes to Atlantic City and gets free rooms, free meals, free shows. But he loses a ton gambling!!!! He remortgaged his house. Did he really get those free?

Okay, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck here but forgive my ignorance>
:rotfl: (me laughing, rolling off the turnip truck) :rotfl2:
When is hurricane saeson and how affected is Disney by this? Isn't Orlando more inland? :confused3 Not meaning to highjack this by an off the wall question- Thx!

The height of hurricane season is September - when kids go back to school and Disney is dead to start with. WDW has closed due to hurricanes on several occasions - by the time they reach Orlando they are just big storms - but big storms that bring a LOT of rain, last two days, and have really high winds - you might spend two days in the hotel while Disney feeds you box lunches in the dark. You can get hurricanes throughout Summer and into October, but September is fairly high risk - and lacks the draws that October (also fairly high risk) has for bringing people to WDW.

My daughter was down there a few years ago in Aug when Charlie hit(and there were a few others that year) and it was major...also it was HOT and HUMID....she said she would never go there in Aug again....Oh they are DVC memebers too.
As for the meal plan part....we have AP and like the TIW(DDE) card that you can get ....you get 20% off on alot of TS and alcohol too and you can choose when you want to use it. We did do the dining plan early on and it was way too much food and pressure to work around the dinning reservations....and we never managed to use all the credits. Just my humble opinion.

...It just happens that DVC ownership is Disney's best promotion, ever!

Well said! :thumbsup2

...I just think that maybe they should offer something like 2 weeks in Jan. we can purchase park tickets at a discount. That is what the beaches around here do for their rides...

Not sure if you realize this but DVC members do get discounts on park tickets. You get $100 off each annual pass for people in your household (not sure what the limit is on number of people). That's a pretty awesome deal!

Ok I did not know that you can get $100 off your tickets when you purchase a AP. We only did that once but I don't think it was mentioned at the time of booking. I'll have to see what the cost of the AP as to a weeks worth of tickets.
Thanks

Nope AP 2,400.58 subrtact 400 2,000.58
No discount 7 days 842.00 We don't hop

I guess my discount is Disney rewards from Visa We usually use our points to park tickets. But is that a discount from the money we already spent?:rotfl2:

Oh well when it comes down to it we love Disney and you do what you have to. :cloud9: I am so on cloud 9 in my own world.

Thanks anyway

Just read yesterday the limit is eight people in your immediate household.
Hope this helps.

We all bought points for DVC accommodations. If you want the special promotions or incentives then book paying cash through CRO. I've purchased AP rates at value resorts for weekends to save points and take advantage of great discounts. paying $64 a night instead of using 25 points for a studio is a good deal in my opinion.

DVC members can get free dining. You just have to make a reservation through CRO during the promotion time.

You have to purchase a package to get free dining. DVC points aren't part of a package.

What do we get? We get to pay our dues to DVC and then book vacations using our points.

I'm glad I found this thread. Thanks for this clarification. :) Points are really helpful, isn't it? :rotfl:

Have a nice day everyone. :)

DVC used to not give the AP discount, but did give one on hoppers (back then the UPH). Now there is no discount on hoppers, but an AP discount. Personally, the hopper discount worked better for us, but many DVCers are thrilled with the AP discount - and while I never thought Disney would do it, in retrospect, its a good decision for them. Remember that discounts are almost never put in place to save the customer money, but to make more money for the company - with free dining, Disney sells hotel rooms that would be otherwise sitting empty - making more money on the hotel rooms than they give away by feeding people. With the AP discount, Disney convinces a few people to spend a little time at Disney by buying APs - maybe even sells them a few more points to extend their vacations by a few days.

When the $100 AP discount was announced, it was really big news. We had been asking for at least a 10% discount but it was about 25% when it was first announced (cost has gone up).
