Why do men park at Parks????

We had a huge bust at a local park (natural area) here a few years ago. I think 11 men got caught at once in the bathroom engaging in acts not normally associated with the bathroom ;) Was a big deal, several of the men were married, all of their names were in the paper!

I live in a rural area, and the parks in town are for everyone, not just children. Yes, there are play "areas" but with benches for people to sit on. I don't think anything bad of seeing cars parked along the road with a single man, or single woman, in them. They are probably there on a work break eating their sack/fast-food lunch. I do that occasionally myself.

Reminds me of that scene from There's Something About Mary.

Some of the men could also have lost custody of their kids & are watching them on the playground.

Yes it does. Funny- I looked up what year it happened, it was 1998, same year "Mary" came out in theaters. If I'm not mistaken the bust was during daylight hours. I know my friend's grandfather had called to complain about the "goings-on" in the restroom. He often walked the trails during the day with his wife and caught men in there more than once, they finally stopped going to that park because of this.

In those circumstances, they are there to pick up other men.

This frequently happened in at least one park in West Palm Beach, FL.

I am not a man but, I work on the road all day. Often I will stop at a park to eat my packed lunch and listen to the radio and relax for 10 minutes. I often see other men and women doing the same thing. In fact, DH just said how he left his office and went to the town park to eat his lunch today. So, it could be perfectly innocent.

This was my first thought also. ::MickeyMo

This has been bothering me lately. When I have driven by a park I always seem to see a couple of cars with men parked in them. What or why are they at the Park? I would never let my child visit a park alone. A park is a place for children. That is why seeing adults parked in cars makes me wonder what they are doing. Does this happen in other areas??

And what were you doing just driving by the park? Should we be concerned? :earseek:

I went to the "swan" park last year right after school started (kids swimming pool right there too) and was shocked what I found. I thought it was just a man sitting in the park's parking lot, he wasn't alone. I haven't taken taken the girls back.

That's disgusting. I've only used park bathrooms a few times in my life -- I avoid them at all cost! Park bathrooms are disgusting! I can't ever remember being in a single park bathroom that was halfway decent.

Even if I was with my girlfriend and I was very, ahem, horned up, I'd never do anything in a park bathroom! How trashy and digusting is that?

There is nothing wrong with using a park, but sitting in your car by yourself IS going to be viewed as a little strange, :confused3. Most people I know don't sit in their car and eat their lunch especially when there is a park right next to them. Makes more sense to eat the lunch IN the park. If I saw someone eating their lunch, I wouldn't think anything of them. But I was walking and saw someone alone in a car, and then saw the same car as I was coming back...yeah, that would get me thinking.

Or is that going to be denied us also in the name of paranoia?

I don't think anybody has said a word about denying anyone a thing! You may call it paranoia, others think of it as keeping a watchful eye.

Well, I'm a woman and I've done this before. Sometimes, I didn't have time to go all the way home for lunch and there was a park down the street. I'd drive to the park and eat in my car and just peoplewatch or read or sit and think. I have severe allergies which is why sometimes I eat in the car--just because I can't get out and enjoy nature at certain times of the year doesn't mean I never want to see it. I've never thought anyone would figure that I was waiting to snatch a child. Parks are for everyone, not just children.

Well, in the boros of NY sometimes the cab drivers (not yellow cabs, the private ones) line up near parks waiting for dispatch.

As stated earlier in this thread a woman was written up for sitting at a playground only because she didn't have a kid. So yes laws/statutes something are denying people the right to sit at a playground. That to me is paranoia....to essentially ban all those without kids present from a public playground area.

You can see the park when you drive by on the main road. Several parks can be seen that way. I don't visit parks for thinking, eating, or any other nonrelated child activity. Men in cars at parks does not look good. I wrote this post and then I thought why did I write this? I guess I thought it was a concern. Maybe I just shouldn't be so niave.

If it was a kids playground or school yard, that would seem to be different, but public parks are for everyone's enjoyment.

I agree!!!! I have stopped in a park occasionally to eat lunch or even make a phone call if I am driving around doing errands during the day, I am a woman but I have also seen men eating their lunch or just "relaxing" in parks before. I don't think it is fair to assume that they are up to no good.

Absolutely! I often go to the park to walk, rollerblade, eat lunch, or enjoy the day. I also go to the zoo and Disney World and *gasp* I don't have kids. Am I some pervert trying to corrupt kids because I enjoy activities kids also like? No, I just enjoy the outdoors and animals. I agree that if some wierdo was hanging around a playground that would be suspect. But to assume every man at a park is doing devious things is like assuming every man I see walking down the street is going to mug me. People should be careful, but it's not right to throw everyone in a stereotype because you don't "like" their behavior. :)

No, a watchful eye is a parent or caregiver being on hand to make sure nothing happens to their child. Paranoia is not allowing adults the freedom to enjoy a moment of relaxation on a park bench without accusing them of some sort of wrongdoing.

I drive long distances and often go to parks just to sit in the car when I am early for an appointment. I also will eat lunch, read, and just enjoy nature, even without my kids. They are called "parks" so I think it's okay if people just want to park themselves there for a short period of time.
