Direct points are worth more than resale points, full stop. For me, the current price differential is too large to entice me to buy direct:
- I discount the out-years steeply. Lots of uncertainty about what our vacations will look like in 20 years. I can’t game out my own preferences, or how WDW will change over time.
- The lock-in effect of owning resale in 2058 works in all sorts of ways. I own resale at CCV. If O14 resale owners (or what’s left of the originals) are as stuck with our home resorts as you all predict, the it will be pretty tough for anyone to switch into CCV at 7 months. Who knows? But imagine there could be a more active “reservation swap” system, and I’ll have a desirable and scarce resource to trade.
- you won’t remember the difference in price that you paid for the direct points and I won’t remember what I saved by buying resale. I figure the viable difference in price for my family is an additional two international trips that we are taking. Now, in 2025 (luckily paid for before the dollar dropped). See first bullet.
