Why did you buy the Camera that you have?

decided to come out of the prehistoric age of slr film about 8 months ago since my camera ( canon rebel slr ) was actin strangely and i missed taking pictures but didn't want to spend the ton it would have cost to fix it. hated the slowness of daughter's digital p&s, came on here and learned the wonders of digital slr( ie mostly that they were in the price range of me)...best of both worlds...bought the canon xt cause 1) hoped i could use some of my canon lenses and 2)i liked the canon best of the ones i looked at in my budget. had i known at the time the pentax with IS would be comparably priced and only one of my lenses ( the cheapest naturally)would work i might have waited for it but i like my canon and really only want a few more items( ok so they total another $1000 give or take) that i will be able to use hopefully when i find a bunch of money under a rock somewhere and get something even nicer :lmao: :lmao: ( always planning ahead)

( the paul simon references remind me of the lock the cash box/block( or stop or whatever it is, can't think) the cat box/ rock the casbah commercial out now for some phone :happytv: :happytv: :happytv: and i guess i never knew he really meant a camera  but that was in my much younger and even more stupid days :teeth: )

I bought my Canon XT because I was ready to get into a dSLR after several P&S digitals that replaced my film Minolta SLR.

I chose Canon because of the great results I get out of my Canon G3, because of it's price and because I like the way it feels in my hands. It's an extension of my arm now.

I just bought the Pentax K100D from BeachCamera.com about 2 weeks ago. So far so good.

I researched Canon, Nikon's and the Pentax. They were all somewhat equally matched up.

I went with the Pentax for the image stablization in the camera body as well as the ability to use any Pentax lens ever made. I also like the feel of it more than the Canon and Nikon. More weight to it so it feels more solidly built. Not saying that's a positive or negative, just I preferred the feel of it.

Also, I like the idea of using AA batteries instead of more expensive batteries. I do have sets of rechargeable AA batteries for camera's, but if I ever need a battery, AA's are easy to find.

...I could not afford a DSLR, at the time (early 06). Now, however, the funds are available and I'm poised to enter Nikonsville. Just waiting on Mrs. YEKCIM to greenlight the purchase:

D50 body
Sigma 17-70
Nikkor 28-200

Good news Ed. Come on Mrs YEKCIM, release the poor man.

I'll put in a good word to Ol' St Nick for ya. :thumbsup2

Somewhere, there's a K10D weeping. ;)

I had considered the K10D but, to be honest, the pix I have seen that were taken with the K10D have not impressed me too much. Besides that, Mrs. YEKCIM has a brand new D200 and will probably dictate not only which brand (Nikon) but which model I am allowed to have, in order that she have access to "my" lenses, etc, should the need arise (she is a freelance pro).

St. Nick has text messaged me not to get my hopes up, unless I *really* like coal lumps. Besides, Mrs. YEKCIM trumps Santy, big time.

On the positive side, Mrs. Y has not only agreed to allow me and the little YEKCIM-ette to spend four days at fabulous Walt Disney World in July, but has also agreed to accompany us *and* has further agreed to be content (?) with staying in a Disney Value Resort of our choice (based on YEKCIM-ette's choice of "cool" pool theming) instead of the much more fiscally irresponsible Moderate resort that she had previously stated as the minimum acceptable accommodation.

Ya takes the good with the bad, I guess.

Well, if there's already a Nikon DSLR in the family then it only makes sense. I've just been watching your decision-making process from afar and couldn't resist teasing a little. :teeth:

I bought a cheepy video camera, under $100.00 Its a DXG. its small and it doesnt take bad pic at all. I am very happy with it.

I should DH credit for all my camera choices even if he rarely takes a pic! My first digital was a small P&S that came with a Dell computer (can't remember the name even but I wore it out!). It took great pictures and still works but the rubber "click" button sticks sometimes. Small but efficient the pictures came out vivid and clear with no effort at all.

Then on his own, after much research he surprised me with a Canon Sure Shot G5 a few years ago! This DSLR is fantastic and I haven't used half its capability but is a bit on the heavy side. To be honest, I could probably exist with a Canon P & S that has some great pre-set choices and my Photo Elements but I keep forcing myself to use more of the G5 and I occasionally amaze myself (or just get lucky).

Lately I've also used my Canon G5 to take short videos and they have turned out great too! This makes much more sense for us than buying a camcorder for those rare few moments to record for posterity!
