Why did they remove the period "." from VMK Dictionary

My message to VMK's Contact Us: "The removal of the period puncuation mark from the dictionary is just absurd. VMK is known to cripple basic communication and teach kids poor spelling and grammar, but this is too far. Please return it."

Thanks for posting this. I could not figure out what was wrong with my room description. I see the period was the culprit.

Well While playing pirates yesterday my last mule to get her diver pin Yeah me. One player swore and all they did was put in a comma instead of a period. So there really is no point of taking the period out. Soon We will have a VMK without any puncutation. Why do few bad apples ruin it for everyone. But that is what our society is like in general. So sad. But is is not VMK fault. They are trying to figure out how to make kids safe. Sad thing it is the kids that get around the rules not so much the adults I think.

Yep, well said, I also saw someone replace a comma for a period when saying a bad word in his sig :(

It is because it helps in dictionary dancing. By putting a '.' between words to make new ones
:)
So there you have it.
Just one more time that VMK had a knee jerk reaction.
Grammar is a good thing.

They will just fine another way to do it.

This whole thing is absurd.

I understand that the game is supposed to be for kids and I guess VMK is supposedly just trying to save the kids. I've seen VMK make many dumbo choices in this regard (and others) over the year I've been playing. This has to be one of the worst.

I'll give you two reasons why (and you need no more):
[1] Removing the period is pointless. It will not stop people from dancing the dictionary. Not a bit. It will hardly slow them down! They can just use other punctuation. And even if all the commas, hyphens, single-quotes, etc. are removed the dancers will just use a space.

[2] There's a better way. Rather than remove the full stop (or any other punctuation) simply disallow all punctuation without at least one space after them. This is already done with the single-quote ( ' ), so why not do it with the rest? It's funny that grammatically speaking there should not be a space after the quote, but that's not only allowed it's required. And yet a period should have one or two spaces (depending on your school of thought as I've seen rules on both - I'm a two spacers myself) and it's allowed to be crammed up next to other words. But I digress...

Would it prevent dictionary dancing? No. See reason [1] above. VMK can and should remove obviously bad words and other words that they deem taboo. I think they could be more efficient if they were to watch for and remove popular dances as they're found (he.add or he,add or he add - etc.), but anytime you allow the freedom for users to type thousands of words you're going to have blue language. The only real way to get rid of the dancing and really control talking would be as HeDiedxILive mentioned... Limit communication to the use of only pre-made words/phrases from some sort of menu.

:teacher:

Some words that need to be removed are:
ugly, nasty, stink,

When they included them in the dictionary what did they think would happen?

In order to keep up with the ever changing vmk dictionary stop All sentences must now end in stop stop thank you stop have a great vmk day stop

:cool1: :cool1: :lmao: :cool1: :cool1:

And they wonder why we don't play as much as we used to...

:lmao: That gave me a good chuckle! Everyone should do that, but you can only use stop twice (stop)

This angers me. I like to use proper grammar in VMK, I end my sentences with periods when trying to make a point. My friends call me A.A., short for AbsoluteAwesome. I use ".." to break silences. I wrote to contact us already. I know that they are trying to prevent dictionary dancing, but it won't be successful.

Just the other day I had trouble saying hey to you! I was trying to decide what to type. Haha
